Preaching: Too Timid To Tell the Truth
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. --Acts 4:13
The contemporary moral climate does not favor a faith as tough and fibrous as that taught by our Lord and His apostles. The delicate, brittle saints being produced in our religious hothouses today are hardly to be compared with the committed, expendable believers who once gave their witness among men. And the fault lies with our leaders. They are too timid to tell the people all the truth. They are now asking men to give to God that which costs them nothing.
Our churches these days are filled (or one-quarter filled) with a soft breed of Christian that must be fed on a diet of harmless fun to keep them interested. About theology they know little. Scarcely any of them have read even one of the great Christian classics, but most of them are familiar with religious fiction and spinetingling films. No wonder their moral and spiritual constitution is so frail. Such can only be called weak adherents of a faith they never really understood. That Incredible Christian, 76.
"How much more true this is today, Lord, than in Tozer's day! How long before we see a movement of the Holy Spirit to give a depth and seriousness again in our pulpits? Send it, I pray, for Jesus' sake. Amen."

TOZER PINGThis is basically why I’ve left the church. My Christianity is old school, it’s all about sacrifice. I got tired of feeling like a lone rogue in a sea of baby boomer seeker church fluff.
I figured I’d get into missionary work and go overseas to get away from American church culture, but all it seemed to be was about playing the game, getting the buzz words right, and jumping thru hoops, not about your character or commitment. I walked away with a very bad taste in my mouth.
Very understandable. We have tried to find conservative Christian churches, and have had a great deal of difficulty. Add to that the fact that we do not agree with denominational labels, and the task has grown to be even more difficult. We are currently attending a Baptist church, but have no desire to become members, and probably will not continue to attend much longer. I believe that the “Church” is in there somewhere, but I cannot see it very well through the tares.
