Lesson from the Epistle of the Blessed Apostle Saint James
Dearly beloved: Every best gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change nor shadow of alteration; begotten us by the word of truth, that we might be some beginning of His creatures. You know, my dearest brethren: And let every man be swift to hear but slow to speak and slow to anger. For the anger of a man worketh not the justice of God. Wherefore, casting away all uncleanness and abundance of naughtiness, with meekness receive the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

A reading from the Holy Gospel by Blessed Apostle Saint John A t that time, Jesus said to His disciples: "I go to Him that sent Me: and none of you asketh Me: Whither goest Thou? But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart. But I tell you the truth: it is expedient to you that I go: for if I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you: but if I go, I will send Him to you. And when He is come, He will convince the world of sin, and of justice and of judgment. Of sin, because they believed not of Me: and of justice, of sin, because they believed not of Me: and of justice, because I go to the Father, and you shall see Me no longer: and of judgment, because the prince of this world is already judged. I have yet many things to say to you; but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will teach you all truth. For He shall not speak of Himself: but what things soever He shall hear He shall speak, and the things that are to come, He shall show you. He shall glorify Me: because He shall receive of Mine and shall show it to you." |
Homily For Third Sunday After Easter May 2003 Anno Domini
by Father Louis J. Campbell "Qui legit, intelligat" "He who readeth, let him understand"
Every Good and Perfect Gift
As each day passes fewer and fewer realize the wonderful good and perfect gift from above is not to be taken for granted; but to be cherished. If not, it will be lost for all eternity!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
"Every good gift and perfect gift is from above,
" says Blessed Apostle Saint James in today's Epistle. Jesus returned to the Father so that He could send us the greatest gift of all, the Holy Ghost, with His abundant gifts and blessings. "And when He has come," says Jesus, "He will convict the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment
" ( Blessed Apostle Saint John 16:8 ).
The presence of the Spirit of God reveals sin in men's hearts, just as a light, when it is turned on, reveals the objects that are in the room. This is why, with growth in the spiritual life, one becomes more conscious of sin. Holy Saint Francis of Assisi called himself the greatest of sinners, not because he was that in actual fact, but because in his closeness to God he realized the horror of sin, even the smallest sin. Today people have little consciousness of sin, which shows just how far they have drifted from God and the true path of salvation. They are in spiritual darkness, and only the light of the Holy Spirit will reveal to them their true spiritual condition.
We have been deceived. Our worst enemies are not just the Al-Qaedas and the Saddam Husseins, but those of our own household, as Jesus Himself predicted. We are assigned to a state of spiritual and intellectual limbo by our own leaders, both national and ecclesiastical. We can now be told that white is black and black is white, that good is evil, and that evil is good. Those above us oversee the destruction of our minds and our souls, especially those of the young, through the managed information and corrupt programming of the media, and a false education which robs us of our faith and of all sense of the truly spiritual. This is beyond slavery.
Entertainment these days is an insult and an affront to the Christian and to God. There is no true innocence left among the young except the very few who, by God's grace, have been given a true education and the guidance of wise and prudent parents, a rare breed themselves.
Perhaps it will be easier to believe if I quote at length from the remarkable prophecies of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres in Ecuador in the year 1610 ( Our Lady of Good Success -Prophecies for Our Times, ed. Marian Therese Horvat, Ph.D., Tradition in Action, Inc. 1999, Tradition in Action ). Speaking in particular of that country, but giving it a universal significance, she declared:
-
"Thus do I make known to you that from the end of the 19th century and especially in the 20th century
the passions will erupt and there will be a total corruption of customs, for Satan will reign almost completely by means of the Masonic sects. They will focus particularly on the children in order to achieve this general corruption. Woe to the children of those times! It will be difficult to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, and also that of Confirmation. Making use of persons in positions of authority, the devil will assiduously try to destroy the Sacrament of Confession
The same will happen with Holy Communion
Often during this epoch, the enemies of Jesus Christ, instigated by the demon, will steal consecrated hosts from the churches so that they might profane the Eucharistic Species. My Most Holy Son will see Himself cast upon the ground and trampled upon by irreverent feet."
In fact, only days ago, a traditional chapel in Farmingville, New York, was vandalized. The tabernacle was thrown outside, the hosts scattered on the floor, and the beautiful old altar smashed.
Our Lady continues:
-
"During this time
the Sacrament of Extreme Unction will be little esteemed. Many people will die without receiving it-either because of the negligence of their families or a false sentimentality that tries to protect the sick from seeing the gravity of their situations
-
"As for the Sacrament of Matrimony, which symbolizes the union of Christ with His Church, it will be attacked and profaned in the fullest sense of the word. Masonry, which will then be in power, will enact iniquitous laws with the objective of doing away with this Sacrament. This will make it easy for everyone to live in sin
-
"The Sacrament of Holy Orders will be ridiculed, oppressed and despised
The demon will try to persecute the ministers of the Lord in every possible way. He will labor with cruel and subtle astuteness to deviate them from the spirit of their vocation and will corrupt many of them. These depraved priests, who will scandalize the Christian people, will incite the hatred of the bad Christians and the enemies of the Roman, Catholic and Apostolic Church to fall upon all priests. This apparent triumph of Satan will bring enormous sufferings upon the good pastors of the Church
"
Perhaps you have heard about the new video game which is selling out across the nation. Among other horrible things, the player, "Postal Dude," is able to kill priests and brutalize their bodies. A portent, perhaps, of things to come.
Continuing the prophecy:
-
"Moreover, in these unhappy times, there will be unbridled luxury which, acting thus to ensnare the rest into sin, will conquer innumerable frivolous souls who will be lost. Innocence will almost no longer be found in children, nor modesty in women. In this supreme moment of need of the Church, those who should speak will fall silent."
As the devil rages in his Apocalyptic warfare against the Church, we must pray for the Divine Protection, and in particular for the special gifts and graces of the Holy Ghost, as we anticipate the great feast of Pentecost. We confidently invoke the prayers and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom we venerate today as Our Lady of Good Success.
Simple knowledge of these things is not enough. It must sadden us to see the holy Christian virtues ridiculed, as they are every day by the media. Sacred images and other holy things are mocked and desecrated. Do not laugh! Turn away from dangerous images which pollute the mind, and practice custody of the eyes and the other senses. True freedom is spiritual freedom, knowing God by the indwelling of His Spirit. The Spirit of Truth will free your minds from error and give you true judgment and discernment, so that you may know and confess your sins. Love the things of God, and cherish above all things your holy Religion while you still have it.
Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres received permission from her bishop to make a statue of Our Lady of Good Success. It is said that Archangels Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel, Saint Raphael and Saint Francis of Assisi assisted in fashioning this beautiful statue, which is venerated in Ecuador to this day. May Our Lady, Spouse of the Holy Ghost, obtain for us an increase of His heavenly gifts at Pentecost, and success in our battle against the powers of darkness that war against our souls. And may we always be faithful and obedient to her, whom we call our Lady of Good Success, our Mother, and our Queen.

Apparition of
Mary of Good Success of the Purification
to Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Præfatio Paschalis ~ Preface for Easter
|
|
|
It is truly meet and just, right and profitable to extol Thee indeed at all times, O Lord, but chiefly with highest praise to magnify Thee on this day on which for us was sacrificed Christ our Pasch. For He is the true Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world; who by dying Himself hath destroyed our death; and by rising again hath bestowed a new life on us. And therefore with the Angels and Archangels, with the Thrones and Dominations and with all the array of the heavenly Host we sing a hymn To Thy glory and unceasingly repeat: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY...
