The Holy Tridentine Roman Rite Mass

The Tridentine Mass takes its name from the Council of Trent ( 1545-63 ), under the watchful eye of Pope Saint Pius V. The "Tridentine Rite" is, therefore, more properly called the Ancient or Traditional Roman Rite. The last edition of its missal was published in 1962.

The traditional Roman Rite differs from the new rite -- the 1969 Novus Ordo. This “new Mass” omits about 70 percent of the traditional Mass prayers. Most consider the traditional Latin Mass to be much more formal, more dignified.

It’s emphasis is on the sacrifice of Jesus and the recognition of the “true presence” of Jesus—Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity—in the Holy Eucharist. The entire Mass focuses on the Consecration of the Body and Blood and on reception of Christ in Holy Communion. This is represented in the photograph below.

The priest and the faithful face forward to the altar...and to God. The Holy Traditional Tridentine Roman Rite Latin Mass is the manner in which Catholics worshiped The One True God for well over 1,000 years. For those over the age of 40, it is the Mass of their youth. For those too young to remember incense filled churches, Gregorian chant, and the reverent silence at Mass, the Tridentine rite offers a return to a profound manner of worship.

THE ATHANASIAN CREED

The Athanasian Creed, attributed to Saint Athanasius, also know as the Quicumque vult, was formerly recited at the office of Prime on Sundays and Trinity Sunday is the time when we renew our commitment to our Faith and the dogma Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus - "Outside the Church There is No Salvation." The Athanasian Creed is one of the four authoritative Creeds of Holy Mother Church, and it is not something that is an opinion but what every Roman Catholic must believe.

   

Quicumque vult salvus esse, ante omnia opus est, ut teneat catholicam fidem: Quam nisi quisque integram inviolatamque servaverit, absque dubio in aeternam peribit. Whosoever wishes to be saved must, above all, keep the Catholic Faith. For unless a person keeps this Faith whole and entire, he will undoubtedly be lost forever. This is what the Catholic Faith teaches: we worship one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in unity. Neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, another of the Holy Spirit. But the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit have one divinity, equal glory, and coeternal majesty. What the Father is, the Son is, and the Holy Spirit is. The Father is uncreated, the Son is uncreated, and the Holy Spirit is uncreated. The Father is boundless, the Son is boundless, and the Holy Spirit is boundless. The Father is eternal, the Son is eternal, and the Holy Spirit is eternal. Nevertheless, there are not three eternal beings, but one eternal being. So there are not three uncreated beings, nor three boundless beings, but one uncreated being and one boundless being. Likewise, the Father is omnipotent, the Son is omnipotent, the Holy Spirit is omnipotent. Yet there are not three omnipotent beings, but one omnipotent being. Thus the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. However, there are not three gods, but one God. The Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Lord. However, there as not three lords, but one Lord. For as we are obliged by Christian truth to acknowledge every Person singly to be God and Lord, so too are we forbidden by the Catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords. The Father was not made, nor created, nor generated by anyone. The Son is not made, nor created, but begotten by the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is not made, nor created, nor generated, but proceeds from the Father and the Son. There is, then, one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three sons; one Holy Spirit, not three holy spirits. In this Trinity, there is nothing before or after, nothing greater or less. The entire three Persons are co-eternal and co-equal with one another. So that in all things, as is has been said above, the Unity is to be worshipped in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity. He, therefore, who wishes to be saved, must believe thus about the Trinity. It is also necessary for eternal salvation that he believes steadfastly in the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thus the right faith is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is both God and man. As God, He was begotten of the substance of the Father before time; as man, He was born in time of the substance of His Mother. He is perfect God; and He is perfect man, with a rational soul and human flesh. He is equal to the Father in His divinity, but inferior to the Father in His humanity. Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ. And He is one, not because His divinity was changed into flesh, but because His humanity was assumed unto God. He is one, not by a mingling of substances, but by unity of person. As a rational soul and flesh are one man: so God and man are one Christ. He died for our salvation, descended into hell, and rose from the dead on the third day. He ascended into Heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. At His coming, all men are to arise with their own bodies; and they are to give an account of their own deeds. Those who have done good deeds will go into eternal life; those who have done evil will go into the everlasting fire. This is the Catholic Faith. Everyone must believe it, firmly and steadfastly; otherwise He cannot be saved. Amen.

Atmosphere of Reverent Worship :
Peaceful, otherworldly atmosphere. Emphasis on individual 'lifting his heart & mind to God.' The faithful direct their prayer and attention to God, not each other."

Profound Reverence for His Real Presence :
Sixteen genuflections. The hands of the priest alone touch the consecrated host. Communion given only on tongue.

Fidelity to Catholic Doctrine :
Over the course of a year, all facets of Roman Rite Catholicism are presented.

Antiquity :
Bulk of Sunday prayers & their arrangement goes back at least to 300s and 400s AD. Canon essentially the same since Blessed Saint Ambrose ( 397 Anno Dómini ).

Stability :
Everything regulated by precise tradition to protect the purity of worship and doctrine.

Priest is Sacrificer:
Priest faces tabernacle, cross and altar ( symbolically toward God ). Priest performs all the actions & recites all the prayers of the Mass.

  

With....
Modern Mass at your parish

Social, Classroom, Entertainment Atmosphere :
Constant standing, sitting, amplified noise; atmosphere like a public meeting. Emphasis on 'instruction.' Socializing in church before & after service, and handshaking during.

Indifference, Irreverence towards Real Presence :
Only three genuflections required. Lay men & women distribute communion. Communion given in hand - a practice protestants introduced to deny Christ's Real Presence.

Systematic Omission of Catholic Doctrines :
New and or 'revised' prayers systematically omit all references to hell; judgment; punishment for sin; merits of the Saints; the One True Church; the souls of the departed; and heavenly miracles.

Novelty :
Traditional Sunday prayers omitted, or stripped of doctrines, and 'rearranged' from the 1960s to this day. Only 17% of old prayers remain. Chunks of ancient Canon are now 'optional'. The words of consecration, Christ's own words "For you and for many" have been changed. Three substitute 'Canons' invented & introduced in 1960s, with more invented later.

Constant Change :
Options, options and more options. Individual priests & parish liturgy committees get to pick, drop or invent texts to push whatever they think the faithful should believe.

Priest is "President", Actor :
Priest faces people instead of symbolically "toward God." Priest sits off to side. His functions given away to lay men and women whose hands have not been consecrated to hold the precious Body of Christ Jesus, nor have they been given the Holy Sacrament of Holy Orders to perform priestly duties.

The Just Anger of God

Lent may be over, but it does not mean we let up our disciplines of prayer and fasting for we need to be steeled and ready for fierce spiritual warfare for the evil one plies his trade everywhere, growing more fierce in his attacks on his Adversary, which hurts most when it is directed toward His Own Blessed Mother who will play such a pivotal role in satan's demise. Are we going to sit idly by and let the evil one control men to blaspheme and denounce God and ridicule His Mother? If so we're not showing much loyalty and shouldn't be surprised at why the Almighty is so justly angry.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

With Mary, the Holy Mother of God, with the Apostles, with Mary Magdalene and the holy women who came to the empty tomb, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. With Thomas, who once doubted, we make out profession of faith, "My Lord and my God!" Blessed Apostle Saint John assures us in today's Epistle, "This is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith."

It is with great sadness that we witness the faithlessness of the present generation. We have already noted that some who do not know God dare to blaspheme His Divine Son, Jesus Christ, presenting Him as a merely human figure who staged His own Resurrection, married Mary Magdalene, and left a line of descendants who still live on this earth. This is the theme of The Da Vinci Code. Yet in what must inflame God's anger to its height, calling down His justified and imminent chastisements upon this world, they now shamelessly insult the holy, most pure and Immaculate Virgin Mary. In a shocking and blasphemous musical comedy entitled "Mary, Like a Virgin," Mary is portrayed as a lewd and impure woman, and blasphemous things are implied about her relationship with the all-holy God.

Blasphemy - among the greatest of sins, a crime punishable by death in the Old Testament, as we read in the Book of Leviticus: "Tell the Israelites: Anyone who curses his God shall bear the penalty of his sin; whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall be put to death. The whole community shall stone him; alien and native alike must be put to death for blaspheming the Lord's name" ( Leviticus 24:15,16 ).

God revealed His Holy Name to Moses on Mount Sinai. When Moses asked Him, "When I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' if they ask me, 'What is His name?' what am I to tell them?" And God said, "This is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you" ( Exodus 3:13,14 ).

On several occasions Our Lord took to Himself the holy Name, I AM, to which He had a right, being the only-begotten Son of God. Falsely accusing Our Lord of blasphemy, the Jews took up stones to cast at Him when He said to them: 'Abraham your father rejoiced that he was to see My day. He saw it and was glad.' The Jews therefore said to Him, 'Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast Thou seen Abraham?' Jesus said to them, 'Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.' They therefore took up stones to cast at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out from the temple" ( Blessed Apostle Saint John 8:56-59 ).

About Our Lord's trial before the Sanhedrin we read: "Again the high priest began to ask Him, and said to Him, 'Art Thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?' And Jesus said to him, 'I am. And you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of Heaven.' But the high priest tore His garments and said, 'What further need have we of witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?' And they all condemned Him as liable to death" ( Blessed Apostle Saint Mark 14:61-64 ).

We find in the Catechism of the Council of Trent a well deserved rebuke against those who abuse the name of the Lord. After discussing other sins against the Second Commandment, the Catechism says about blasphemy: "Still more enormous is the guilt of those who, with impure and defiled lips, dare to curse or blaspheme the holy name of God - that name which is to be blessed and praised above measure by all creatures, or even the names of the Saints who reign with Him in glory. So atrocious and horrible is this crime that the Sacred Scriptures, sometimes when speaking of blasphemy use the word blessing."

The greatest of Saints reigning with God in glory, our beloved Mother and Queen, is insulted, derided, pierced to the heart in this latest horrible caricature of the holiest and fairest of all God's creatures. The Immaculate Mother of the Risen and Glorified Christ, assumed body and soul into Heaven with Him, is dragged through the mud and filth of this sinful world. How can we not weep and mourn such an indignity to our beloved Holy Mother? How can we not rise up in righteous anger at so great an offense against Heaven! May Saint Michael the Archangel cast down those impious scoundrels as he cast out the devil and his angels from Heaven: "And there was a battle in Heaven; Michael and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon fought and his angels. And they did not prevail, neither was their place found any more in Heaven" ( Apocalypse 12:7,8 ).

This must be a wakeup call for us. The Son of God Himself is denied and crucified again, and the sword of sorrow once again pierces the heart of His Holy Mother. God's just anger is being enkindled against a world immersed in sin and unbelief, and the threatened chastisements are upon us. The angels are already pouring out the bowls of God's wrath upon the nations. If we let these terrible atrocities pass us by without springing into action we may never have the grace to resist the onslaughts of Satan's kingdom. If we remain passive and spineless while the enemies of the cross of Christ have their way we may end up like them: "For many walk, of whom I have told you often and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is ruin, their god is the belly, their glory is in their shame, they mind the things of earth" ( Philippians 3:18,19 ).

Our chief weapon in the spiritual combat is devout and persevering prayer - our rosaries and other devotions, our prayerful Scripture reading, our meditating on the things of God, and devout participation in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We must proclaim our loyalty to Christ and His Kingdom by conforming our lives to His - no more affection for sin and the broad path that leads to destruction, but a firm choice of the narrow way that leads to life. But we can also act together to defend what we hold dear, demonstrating to the world that we will not accept its insults and blasphemies against our God and His Holy Mother. We have work to do.

"All that is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Who is there that overcomes the world if not he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God… He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony of God in himself" (1 Blessed Apostle Saint John 5:4,5,10).

I went to St. Athanasius School and Church when I was living in Brooklyn. He is a great saint.

I haven’t gone to Mass in years except for my parents’ funerals; it has become so mundane.

Blesssed Amadeus IX of Savoy

Duke of Savoy, a model of charity. Amadeus was the son of Duke Louis I of Savoy. He was born in 1435 in Thonon, Savoy and betrothed as an infant to Princess Yolanda, the daughter of Charles VII of France. They were married in 1451, and Amadeus succeeded his father as duke of Savoy. A victim of epilepsy, he resigned his dukedom around 1471, leaving Yolanda in control. A revolt developed, and Amadeus was imprisoned until King Louis XI of France, Yolanda's brother, secured his release. He died on March 30, 1472, known for his charity and concern for the poor. He was beatified in 1677.

Benedictine abbot of Monte Cassino, Italy, although he was a Greek by birth. He was also named superior of Blessed Apostle Saint Peter's near Pontecorvo. His relics are venerated there.

Also known as Cdmon; Cadfan; and Cedmon

A layman cowherd, in his later years he came to work with animals at the double monastery of Whitby. One night in 657 he received a vision which commanded him to glorify God with hymns, and which gave him the poetic skills to do so. As he was illiterate, the brothers would read the Bible to Caedmon, and he would repeat it back to them as poetry. With the encouragement of Saint Hilda, Whitby's abbess, he became a Columban lay brother. First known poet of vernacular English. His story was recorded by Saint Bede. Miracles attributed to his intercession.

Blesssed Joachim of Fiore

Also known as : Gioacchino da Fiore; Joachim de Floris; Joachim the Prophet; and Joachim von Fiore

Born to a middle class family; his father was a notary. Page to the court of the Norman King Roger of Sicily. Pilgrim to Palestine. Priest. Benedictine Cistercian monk at Sambucina, where he tried to reform the Order. Abbot at Corazzo in 1176. Hermit at Pietro Alto in 1183. Left the Cistercian order and founded a congregation at Fiore c.1190. Mentioned by Dante in the Paradiso as being in heaven. Never officially beatified, he was been referred to as Beatus since his death.

Prolific writer on ascetics, clerical reform, and biblical studies, including treatises on the Gospels, an exposition on Revelations, and a concordence of the Old and New Testaments that were based on a moment of insight he was given upon waking one Easter morning. After his death, his works were used to bolster the arguments of some heretics (the Joachimites) who believed that the year 1260 would usher in the era of the Holy Spirit, replacing the era of Christ, a teaching condemned by the Lateran Council of 1215.

Monk on Mount Sinai at age 16. Hermit in various places in the Arabian Desert. Abbot at Mount Sinai at age 75. Just before his death he resigned his position to return to his solitary life. Ascetical writer whose works have influenced those seeking the holy life for 15 centuries.

Saint Leonard Murialdo

Born to a wealthy, pious family. Studied at the University of Turin, and the College of Saint Sulpice in Paris. Ordained in 1851 at the Church of the Visitation. After studies in France, he returned to Italy to take the assignment of "provisional director" of an impoverished college for young working men; he would spend his career there.

Founded the Society of Saint Joseph of Turin modelled after and under the patronage of Saint Joseph, the model for working people; it still exists, and still supports young apprentices. Founded a center for delinquent boys, the forerunner of Boy's Town and similar institutions. Supported the Catholic Workers Union. Established a national federation to improve the level of Italian journalism. A model for Christian social workers, he was dubbed a Socialist for advocating an 8-hour work day in 1885.

Blessed Maria Restituta Kafka

Also known as : Helen Kafka; Helena Kafka; Maria Restituta Kafka; and Sister Restituta.

Sixth daughter of a shoemaker. Grew up in Vienna, Austria. Worked as a sales clerk. Nurse. Joined the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity ( Hartmannschwestern ) in 1914, taking the name Restituta after an early Church martyr. Worked for twenty years as a surgical nurse, beginning in 1919. Known as a protector of the poor and oppressed. Vocal opponent of the Nazis after Anschluss, the German take over of Austria. Sister Restituta hung a crucifix in every room of a new hospital wing. The Nazis ordered them removed; Restituta refused. She was arrested by the Gestapo in 1942. Sentenced to death on 28 October 1942 for "aiding and abetting the enemy in the betrayal of the fatherland and for plotting high treason"; Martin Bormann decided that her execution would provide "effective intimidation" for other opponents of the Nazis. She spent her remaining time in prison caring for other prisoners; even the Communist prisoners spoke well of her. She was offered her freedom if she would abandon her religious community; she declined. Blessed Mary Restituta Kafka was beheaded on 30 March 1943 at Vienna, Austria, a Martyr.

Also known as : Riaghail of Scotland; and Rule of Saint Andrew.

Bishop of Patras, Greece. Custodian of the relics of Saint Andrew the Apostle. In 345 he received a vision telling him to take the relics to the west, and to found a church with the name Saint Andrew. He and some companions wandered to the west, and in 347 landed at Kilrimont where he built the church, the earliest in Scotland. Regulus is commemorated in the Aberdeen Breviary.

Saint Zozimus of Syracuse

Also known as Zosimus of Syracuse.

Son of wealthy land owners. Dedicated to Saint Lucy of Syracuse. Entered the monastery of Saint Lucy near Syracuse, Sicily at age seven. At one point as a child, he was unable to bear the quiet of the monastery and the tedium of his chores, and he ran away. His family sent him back to the monastery. There he had a vision of Saint Lucy who seemed angry. In the vision, Our Lady appeared, calmed Lucy, and welcomed the boy back to the monastery.

Studied under Saint Faustus of Syracuse. Monk for thirty years. Abbot; during the meeting to choose an abbot, Zozimus was left behind to watch the door and guard the church's relics. The bishop decided this was a man humble enough to be trusted with the task, and made Zozimus abbot. Priest. Chosen the unwilling bishop of Syracuse in 649. Noted for his charity to the poor and his work to educate his parishioners.

Prayer for the Universal Church

Pray for those who have been wandering and wondering in the conciliar desert for lo over 40 years. Pray for the conversion of the Novus Ordo hierarchy from the highest to the lowest echelons of the clergy, who, in the same manner as the Arian bishops, have apostasized from the True Church which Jesus Christ established on the Rock of Peter. Pray that they will wake from their devastating slumber, cast off their lukewarmness, and demand the unadulterated dogmatic Faith with no novelties, no ecumenism, no modernism, no anything but truly Catholic, embodied by true shepherds who will mandate the only possible Catholic worship - the true and continual sacrifice: the Traditional Latin Mass, set in stone for all time by Pope Saint Pius V.

O God, our refuge and our strength, smite those failing to lead Thy Holy Church,
by and through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel; the Immaculate Virgin Mother Mary; Beloved Saint Joseph; Thy blessed apostles Peter and Paul; and all the saints.
Hear our fervent prayers for more holy priests consecrated according to Thy will;
Provide Your Church leadership with the courage to convert all heretics, pagans, false idolaters and false god worshipers, and especially non-Catholics who refuse to accept the One True Church founded by Your Son and our Redeemer, Christ Jesus;
We pray for a sacred reformation of our Holy Mother Church - guided by Your servant, Pope Pius XII in his Apostolic Constitution Sacramentum Ordinis
.
We pray for these intercessions through the mercy and grace of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Amen.
