I’m trying to understand where you are coming from so we can have a real discussion. Are you a former member of the LDS church, or a former orthodox Christian?

I don’t visit the other religious threads spouting against evangelicals or Catholics, so you’ll understand that my seeing your hundreds of posts against Mormonism as a clear indication of your intent. I haven’t once seen you slam others that way you slam Mormons. If you do that too on other threads, does that make you any less of a ‘bigot’ as you say?

To quote Darth Vader... “Your lack of faith is disturbing...” ;-) No offense.

Interesting response, thanks for doing it. The LDS take 2 Peter 3:8 as literal. We believe that one day to God is 100 years to us. So, scripturally speaking, God created the earth in 6 thousand years, and then rested another thousand years. We’ve come another 6 thousand years since then.

Yet scientific cosmology, every shred of it, dates the universe back to a beginning occurring MORE THAN 15 BILLION YEARS AGO!!!

This is an LDS caucus thread; if you are not LDS, you are a guest on this thread and must not disturb the peace.

Science also tells us that a global food in impossible, a man coming back from the dead after 3 days is impossible, God is not, etc, etc. I don’t put my faith in the arm of flesh, or even in the wisdom of man. It is foolishness and profiteth us nothing. Science has it’s place, but it’s not the end all.

Grew up Catholic, became "saved" in Viet Nam 1970, came home and became active in non-demoninational settings, messianic believer in early 2,000's and now my religion of choice is a non-orthodox brand of Judaism. A religious evolution if you will. The Judaism I espouse does not think of their religion better than other religions. I'm not convinced of the inerrancy of Hebrew writings either. However, I believe societies function best with the observance of commandments (specifically the 10). Judaism has been in the forefront of this type of ideal for centuries. I think of Christianity and Mormonism as groups that espouse this type of behavior as well.

I do not obsess with a future salvation. Its up to God whether or not I continue in the next life. If not, I'm greatful as a human to have been given the breath of life on the earth that he called "good" and created for me. If so, I'll be just as greatful to move on.

Will that get ya started? :-)

"Disturbing the peace? Excuse me, I was the one accused of "spewing venom". Sorry I believed this site to be a "forum" for different ideas and philosophies, instead of a lockout, so much for tolerence--outta here!

Great, thanks for sharing that. One of the things that amazes me about the world of Christianity, is that there are 30 thousand different versions of it. How can they all be right, and all lead to the same source of truth? There is only one source, and it’s God. He is the only way that we can achieve true faith, not by man, pastor or priest.

Since you are obviously on this LDS caucus, let me share an LDS view of what it means to achieve real faith. I hope if you take the time to read this, it’s from the Book of Mormon, and compares faith to a seed. It’s really worth the time if you can.

It starts about verse 28, but the ones before it are a good set up to the sermon. Hope this helps you understand our viewpoint.

It wasn’t an accusation, it was an observation.

Thanx. Read it. I can see how it works for you.
Myself I do not embrace any writings NT, Mormon or Hebrew as
infallible. I lean more to the believe that Hebrew writings are inspired but still not entirely convinced.

Thanks for your honest and approachable discussion. I think faith and the spirit of God that is available to all to know of Him is a little different for everyone. I do know that he has not left us alone to wander in the dark. We are his children after all, and like any good father, He wants us to become stronger and grow up. Part of that is not being there all the time, we have to figure things out ourselves.

I think that we must believe in something other than ourselves to fully do that.

Thanks for your candor!
