Thats why I hope Thompson chooses Hunter as his VP. I think they will be a fantastic team.

Thompson Hunter ... now that would be a Gonzo ticket. Or would it be "Oznog?"

Prominent evangelical leaders ...

I stopped listening to the political pronouncements of "Prominent evangelical leaders" a long time ago. This article reminds me of why I did so.

“His support is like a rhetorical steamroller of insults, accusations and falsehoods.”

Like I’ve been saying: I just wish freepers would bash Democrats as much as they bash Republicans

Then How about it folks a nice big Thank you to Susan Collins of Maine,
Olympia Snowe of Maine,

Richard Shelby of Alabama,
Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania,
Ted Stevens of Alaska,
Fred Thompson former U.S. senator of Tennessee and last but not least
John Warner of Virginia. Figure out what they all have in common and you will understand why they still need bashing :>} NEVER FORGET THEIR NAMES NOR THEIR DEED.

” . . . pressmonkeys are throwing crap because they want you to waste your vote so they can get someone Hillary will beat”

Since when would any self respecting FReeper let the “pressmonkeys” have a say in who we vote for?

...the same people behind the scenes who have had the "Vagina Monologues" featured in over thirty of their religious universities.

"Yeah! Hit 'em hard with the truth, noble brother! Everbody knows we've got to fight the power of the evil liberal cabal that gave us those ACLU lackeys Roberts and Alito! Preach on!"

Thanks for stopping my, tinfoli hat guy. Love the sweatshirt. Now, familyop, how come you haven't answered my question: If media progessives keep choosing our nominees for us, how did Ronald Reagan get the nomination when there was no alternative media and 4 TV networks run by liberals?

Thompson's ambiguities on abortion

1. Thompson's "ambiguities" on abortion are a myth. You don't get a zero rating from NARAL when you're ambiguous on abortion.

2. Even if Thompson were to the left of the current President on abortion, you have already declared in this very thread that you will write in Hunter if he doesn't get the nomination. That will help Hillary or Obama, either of whom will appoint two Supremes in the first term, and neither of whom is at all ambiguous about abortion.

Dobson's still OK with me, but yeah, lately a lot of these guys seem to have bought into the media paranoia that they run the GOP.

Well Saundra, let me tell you...after seeing the number of Freepers who are ready to bug out of Iraq and the stuff they say is going on there, the number of Freepers who think conservative Christians want to take power and establish the Bedroom Police, etc., etc, I think there are a lot of Freepers who are still influenced by the media. Moreover, I know all too well that many of my fellow social conservative Freepers have trouble focusing on electing candidates that will move the chains, and it’s sentiments like those in this article that affect them the most.

Don't tell me that you are a Hunter supporter. I suspect that Duncan Hunter would tell you to shut up and stop all these innane attacks against Thompson and just explain to everyone here why Duncan Hunter is a better conservative than Thompson. But no, you have to go on the attack, doing all within your power to distort Fred Thompson's record and to paint him as some kind of demon democrat.

I was originally a Duncan Hunter supporter. I think Duncan Hunter's political philosophy is closer to mine than any of the other candidates. However despite the fact that Tommy Thompson and Jim Gilmore have both dropped out of the race, Hunter's numbers have not changed.

So the fact of the matter is that Hunter is going nowhere. So by denigrating Thompson, you increase the liklihood that Guiliani will be facing Hillary next Novmeber.

I have decided to throw my full support behind Thompson. He is 1000 times more conservative than Giuliani and 100 times more Conservative than Romney. Maybe Duncan Hunter is 10 times more Conservative than Thompson, but Hunter does not have a prayer in this election.

The time has come to fish or cut bait. Hunter will not get the nomination no matter what happens in the next 6 months. He's been at this for 4 months and he has gone from 1% to 1%.

Now you can keep on rooting for him all you want and keep pushing his message and promoting him as your candidate of choice. I would be happy to support you in that effort. But when you go out of your way to demean and denigrate a legitimate conservative candidate (one who is at least 100 times more conservative than GWB) then you have lost my support for your cause. The more Duncan Hunter supporters I see that come on these threads and trash Thompson, the more opposed to Duncan Hunter as a VP candidate I will become. If his followers are this nasty, then why should Thompson throw them a bone?

Just a nickle's worth of free advice. I suspect you won't take it. But I really think you should consider it.

I suspect the same. Hunter is a class act. Some of my fellow hunter suypporters, however, think that the way to win conservatives to a conservative candidate is to go on insulting rants.

I wish Hunter had a chance, but I don't think this is his year. He does not have sufficient name or face recognition and unfortunately with the rules in place for elections, there is simply no way that a relative unknown is going to get any traction in this election.

The democrats have the MSM on their side and the MSM is not subject to campaign finance laws. As a result they can give millions and millions of dollars worth of advertising (by way of story editing) to the candidates of their choice, and there is simply no way for any grass roots effort to compete with that. So when it comes down to brass tacks there are three republican candidates who have sufficient name recognition (Thompson) and either money (Romney) or free media exposure (Giulinai) to make it through the election cycle.

Thompson is clearly the most conservative candidate who has the ability to win. If he gets the nomination he will be the most conservative republican candidate since Reagan. He's not another Reagan, but then 1/2 of a Ronald Reagan is more than we can possibly hope for these days.

So despite my 99% agreement with Duncan, I have decided to hitch my wagon to the Thompson steamroller. Maybe Duncan can get a VP shot or perhaps a shot as head of Homeland Security. But he will not be the next Republican nominee, and my budget for supporting a candidate is limited. I'm not going to throw my money away on someone who simply cannot win. Sorry.

Thompson beats Rudy McRomney, but Hunter is the guy I’m voting for in the primary unless something big changes my mind.

Lay off with the false, parabolic accusations. They resemble rants from the NOW gang. You are a typical spokesperson for libertine religion but not for the Congressman.

Keep your disrespect for real men like Congressman Hunter and your worship of the most pampered of lifelong civilians to yourself.
