sometimes God chooses to operate through the use of physical things. >>>
yes, God sure does, but then again, who said protestants know the bible. If it weren’t for the Catholic Church there would be no pro-life movement and don’t forget the 5 Catholic justices on the SCOTUS who voted to uphold the ban on PBA.
“And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover.” (Exodus, 25:18-20)
Isaiah 57:8 And behind the doors and the posts hast thou set up thy symbol;
St. Benedict, pray for us.
We ask the saints to pray for US!
Bet you have asked someone to pray for you along the way. Even your mother or father who may have died and gone to heaven.

Sounds like you are a card carrying member of the cult of ignorance.
Watch it. We may lose the Caucus designation. We can always take it down if we really want to debate. I just wasnt’t in the mood to here the standard “Reformist” talking points.
Are any of you planning a Rosary Bowl? Just curious. Several churches here are thinking about it.
If the traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima comes anywhere near you, go see it. Fabulous presentation!
Well I have to agree with what St Benedict wrote and reject how the author of the title piece refers to the medallion. He talks about the medallion as the reason people are protected. He says “IT”has excorsist powers and “IT” protects people, not “Christ” protecting the people or even “Christ through the medallion”. He just refers to the medallion. He did not write this in any way that matches what you found the Order wrote about religious articles. That is what I am having a problem with. And you should as well, because that language totally places the power within the object, not Christ. And if you are honest, you know that to be the case reading those words the way they are written.
Relics are one thing. Ascribing them powers they do not have are another.
Your examples with Christ and the Apostles is that they performed miracles. Within the Apostle’s lifetimes, their abilities to perform such miracles ended. All the healing miracles they did ended well before they all died. All the healing miracles Paul did, that ability left him. He writes about how he could not heal himself anymore. He could not heal Timothy from his stomach problems. He had to send someone back to another church because he was ill.
And I think you are forgetting the real reason why these objects (like items Paul touched and people were healed) worked in the first place. It was God supplying the power to those objects, it wasn’t anything about the objects themselves that allowed them to heal someone. In every example you pull for the OT and the NT, none of the objects were the same. They weren’t 80,000 identically made medals. They were individuals’ pieces of clothing, or Paul’s robe, or someone’s bones. They weren’t mass produced. Relics aren’t made in a mass produced fashion. All your examples don’t fit that. It was God’s power working through those simple, plain things.
Out of curiosity, what religion are you?
It would seem that you do not believe in the Bible.
God instructed Moses to make a staff. He did so. He mounted an image of a snake on the top of it. People who looked at the snake were healed of their snake bites.
Moses parted the Red Sea with his staff.
Also in the desert with no water, Moses struck a rock with his staff and water flowed from it.
All three examples sould quite powerful to me.
Yes, God grants the power. But through the object, the action of the human person and prayer that power is manifested.
So it is with relics and medals. Please read up on it.
Are you a Catholic?
This is a Catholic Caucus thread. (For Catholics to discuss the topic.)

One good thing about having the debate is that the stuff that most of us know already (in this case, the scriptural background for God exercising his power through the use of material things), would never be brought up otherwise.
In the “amen corner” of caucus threads, we’d have only discussed how wonderful the rosary is and how wonderful the St. Benedict medal is and so on.
Lurkers, who were unfamiliar with the background of this, would not have the benefit of seeing the defense of those doctrines.
We have seen the working of the Holy Spirit on FReepers, where they have gone from being hostile to being curious to being interested and, in some cases, have being converted. Not many cases, but some.
Sure, there are many who will never be converted. But there are those who God calls.
Just some stray thoughts while drinking the first cup-o-joe in the morning. Having to deal with detractors/ trolls can be tough and can be discouraging. But I think it provides a powerful witness for some, many of which we will never know.
seems you like to peruse religious threads and hit and run.
