People who travel to foreign lands usually go hoping to see exotic scenery and famous places. They thrill at the wonderful new sights, sounds, and smells. But if they are perceptive and sensitive, they also grow to understand other peoples in other cultures. They realize, as the poet Maya Angelou said, that "all people cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die. . . . If we try to understand each other, we may even become friends."
Not everyone can be a world traveler, but we can all learn to appreciate others. We can avail ourselves of books, documentaries, and music that help us learn about and respect other cultures. Better yet, we can get to know people of various backgrounds in our own neighborhoods.
Reaching out to other cultures, and learning all we can about them, is a path to peace. When we identify with the hearts of people around the world, we are far less likely to make rash assumptions about them, far less likely to embrace stereotypes.
Recently, a group of women from various backgrounds attended an interfaith women's luncheon. They soon discovered that their religious differences paled in comparison to the things they had in common.
All of the women were striving to raise good families, improve as individuals, and be good neighbors. And, as one Hindu woman said with a chuckle, "We all want to understand our husbands."
If peace is ever to come to this world, it will come because we realize that we are all brothers and sisters, fellow citizens of the same planet. We may wear different clothing and eat different foods, but every one of us hopes, dreams, and struggles against adversity.
Every one of us wants to be loved and wants to make a difference in the world. These basic similarities far outshine our differences and give us hope that we can live together in peace.
Thank you for your respect!

| Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: | |
| By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. | |
| And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; | |
| And patience, experience; and experience, hope: | |
| And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. | |
| For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. | |
| For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. | |
| But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. | |
| Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. | |
| For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. | |
| And not only [so], but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. | |
| Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: | |
| (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. | |
| Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. | |
| But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. | |
| And not as [it was] by one that sinned, [so is] the gift: for the judgment [was] by one to condemnation, but the free gift [is] of many offences unto justification. | |
| For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) | |
| Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life. | |
| For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. |

Where Can I Turn for Peace?
Thoughtfully
1. Where can I turn for peace?
Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart,
Searching my soul?
2. Where, when my aching grows,
Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand?
He, only One.
3. He answers privately,
Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind,
Love without end.

This thread is not marked as a devotion, thus rebuttal posts are allowed here.
"Rebuttal posts are disallowed on threads marked as devotionals or chapels, e.g. (LDS Devotional)."
Have been away for a while. Did not know this new rule.
Apologies.

p.s. Should have stayed away longer.

AG was telling you that it IS okay for you to post rebuttals, since this thread was NOT marked as a devotional.
Likewise the Catholic posters have daily mass readings which are devotional and theological disputes are not allowed. And restornu has started posting LDS Devotions - and on those threads, theological disputes are not allowed.
But here, since it is a discussion of LDS spoken word - the discussion is open.
At least, that is the way I expected it to be - and it was - all last year while I was posting Chambers.
Well I called Bonneville Communications it is considered Inspirational or a Reflection
also generic mostly from the Bible as I was told by the Bonivelle Station
The topic was on peace and understanding to build bridges!

Sorry that there was a misunderstand
On devotional threads, we are almost always "preaching to the choir". It's like being inside the closed doors of a chapel, church or temple.
Lurkers and posters from other confessions will show up on the non-devotional threads. It's like being on the town square. They are there to either participate in the debate or to evaluate the opposing views.
Sure, the debate can be intense - but there is no great opportunity for evangelism behind closed doors.
Just scan the number of "views" on the various threads to see what I mean...
I'm sure you hit the abuse button on me, but actually you had no cause.
Your post and peace led me to reflect on my own quest for peace and Romans chapter 5. I thought my post was added devotion, a biblical post should not offend anyone.
There was nothing inherently wrong with me posting about Emma Lou Thayne and my personal relationship with her, her husband, and her daughter. I was just adding to the conversation since you posted her poetry about her own special tests. I was trying to give insight about what those tests my have been about.
I'm sorry you misunderstood my intention.
My reason for doing these Inspirational thread on Understanding Brings Peace" was to build bridges and more thoughtful to one another in spite of our difference.
As what the Reflection threads do, I wanted to have a blend of both Devotional and somedays Inspiration!
I knew the Spoken Word was from Bonniville, but it was also generic in nature which in my mind also fit in the DMZ zone!
I am disapointed that many of you folks collectively want to turn an Inspirational talk into rebuttal on a technicality!
But it just means I must be more careful in the future!
Humbly Yours!

Emma Lou Thayne
has written thirteen books of poetry, fiction, essays, and travel stories. She has been widely anthologized and has published internationally on kinship and peace among people and nations. She has been active in encouraging public attention to mental health, spirituality, and the advancement of women. Her words to the hymn Where Can I Turn for Peace? have been translated into dozens of languages as has her chatbook of poems about war and the environment, How Much for the Earth? (1983).
She has been married to Mel Thayne for fifty-three years, has five daughters and sons-in-law, nineteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Emma Lou taught English and was the womens tennis coach at the University of Utah, where she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 2000.
The Emma Lou Thayne Community Service Center is a source of great joy as it provides students and faculty at Salt Lake Community College with broad opportunities to serve. [from Discoveries: Two Centuries of Poems by Mormon Women, 113]
It is clear that the church that was spoken of 1 Nephi 14, has nothing to do with the Major Religions of the world who practiced the Golden Rule!
It is those institutions that Practiced Selectivity of what they (and sometimes a person will do that of out ignorance!) concider that which is "good is bad", and that which "bad is good!"
Look at our Media today as one example, they carry the water for evil so many times!
In the US when a mining accident happen we are hounded for days how inhumane our system is, and the miners are used for fodder to boast their agenda but do they care about life?
Hope running out for Mexican miners - 65 men stuck underground (was this headline news?)
If nonthing this should have recived headline coverage so they folks could have more Prayers!
This was a thread about understanding and peace. What, pray tell, is there to rebutt or debate?
If it's not a devotional thread (a closed door chapel, church or temple thread) - IMHO, it is fair to do so.
Now, perhaps I have misunderstood. Do you mean that you simply want to add to the conversation or is there something about the above article you feel needs to be corrected? I just don't understand how anyone could object to such a generic statement.
I didn't post a rebuttal, Reaganesque, only an observation that rebuttals are allowed.
