REMNANT NEWS: Today, Tuesday, August 10, 2004 a judge of the 61st Judicial District vacated a default judgment obtained by a Buddhist group against Fr. Michael McMahon and St. Margaret Mary Church. The courts order allows the case to proceed to trial. The case arises from the widely reported incident in which a group of Buddhists appeared at the Basilica of St. Adalbert in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to conduct a Buddhist ritual and/or concert. Fr. McMahon and a group of Catholics prayed the rosary in the basilica, and the Buddhists decided to leave.
The default judgment for $316. against Fr. McMahon had initially been obtained only because Fr. McMahon was out of the country when a court notice arrived in his mailbox. Because of todays ruling, however, Fr. McMahon will now be able to present his defense to the claims against him at a full fledged trial. Those defenses include the first amendment right of Catholics to offer prayers in a Catholic church, an activity that cannot give rise to civil liability.
We will provide further details on this case as they unfold. In the meantime, thanks be to God for this initial victory.
I doubt it. Rome seems more interested in encouraging pagans to worship their false gods on the altars of Catholic shrines and cathedrals than a few traditional Catholics praying the Rosary in reparation for those very same sacrileges.

Best to have everyone and everything ready, and THERE for the trial, if not the other side certainly will.
Prayers to Our Lady of Victory!
May The Good Lord provide His Faithful Catholics with a Courageous Shepherd. One with the courage to cut away the gangrenous parts of the Church, so as to preserve the Whole.
Haven't you heard? Our religious would be better if they all were Zen Buddhists.... < / sarcasm>
Yes, Ven. Anne-Catherine, see St. Adalbert's? Watch them build that false Church where no angel or saint lifts a hand....
If I had read correctly, the church had agreed to let the Buddhists use the building for their services. I would find it odd if someone let me use their computer and then went to unplug it. The actions of the Catholics were, bluntly, very rude. I assume you mean 'pagans' to be anyone who does not worship your god. If your god endorses interruption of other religions' services, then paganism is looking better and better.
My God is the One, True God and He does not tolerate false gods placed before Him.
Not all Christians view the interior of a church as a "worship space" that can also be used for secular purposes. Not all Christians believe in ecumenism and some of us are actually prohibited from passively viewing pagan religious activities if would make it seem to outsiders that we were participants.
The error here was offering the church to pagans in the first place.
