I used to watch his program in the 80s. It was filmed on a university campus, or at least it seemed like it. The audience was made up of student age men, mostly. They'd chant wildly at Wally's inspiration.

It was filmed at the local Anaheim TV station, channel 56. I used to work down the street, so a co-worker and I went to see a live show once. Most of the audience seemed to be local conservative young men, upper middle class at the least, probably students from UCI and/or residents of Newport Beach or Irvine.

Wally's show had a cult-like following among this crowd. I remember the backdrop on the set was a giant American flag, so most of what was visible on the TV was just Wally and that huge flag. I thought he was funny but on point.

Unfortunately he was such a caracature that the left must have thought of him as a useful prop, a nut they could point to as the "average" [lunatic] right-winger. He was so odd that I often wondered if he was a leftist plant, undermining conservative values and ideas by intentionally painting the right as a bunch of emotionally-charged wackos. It was probabably just his ego.

Ah, go on. Rebecca De Mornay is the fat black homeless shelter worker from Seinfeld.

Thanks for the comments. I can understand why you made some of them Wally was a character to say the least.

That's interesting to hear about the studio.

Rest in Peace, Wally. You were a pioneer and you were entertaining. Thank you for bringing a smile, a wink and lots of laughs to so many.

Same here Wally. You're now safe in the arms of the Lord.

Damn... He was a hell of a guy.

Back in the day, my late Saturday night TV viewing was all about Headbanger's Ball, Wally George and beer.

Vaya con Dios, Wally...

I remember when he was the sidekick on Mayor Sam Yorty's TV show. In fact I think he even produced the show.
