Just for the record, since I'm DEEP in the Belly 0f the Academic Beast.......................

I left my Lab for a minute after the opening monolog and an esteemed colleague come up to me and said, "What is this about racist remarks Rush made on TV about McNabb?".

I said I had been following the story for the past 2-3 days and it was all over talk radio......had he?. He repeated his question, "What about these racist remarks". I started to try to go back and explain the situation about how the media would be very sensitive to attacks upon it. He said, "No, no, no. What does that have to to do with his racist remarks!".

I again started to try to explain when another of my esteemed academic colleagues, hearing the conversation, came out of his lab and said, "I heard Rush Limbaugh's a drug addict", making a motion as if he was holding a needle to his arm and injecting himself with heroin. I turned and and started to open my mouth when he continued, "Hey, but I'm not a hypocrite like some people who tell other people what they can and cannot do."

The twin conversations started to get heated and loud, echoing down the hallway, as I started to try to do two defenses at once, AND at the same time as they tried to talk over me. I finally said, putting my Walkman earplugs back in, "I gotta go and listen to the show".

"Did I hear him right, that this is a story from a couple of years ago?"

I don't recall Rush saying that but this is a snippet from Drudge.

" The NATIONAL ENQUIRER held back reporting on Limbaugh for nearly two years, a publishing source tells the DRUDGE REPORT.

The tabloid's editors felt more confidence after police began an investigation.

I have a real hard time believing that Rush got addicted on Rx Drugs. I recall a few times when he had a cold and would take cold medicine and then would talk about how he hated how it made him feel.

If Rush is thrown overboard by his listeners, Hitlery wins.

I dislike the Clintons as much as anyone here, but using terms like "Hitlery" is a bad move. It is an automatic signal that thinking people should not take your argument seriously. A word like "Hitlery" is not a word that thrives in the realm of logic and reasoned debate. It is simple name-calling; not only does it fail to advance one's argument, it actually detracts from it.

I agree with all you said; however, my criticism was aimed at the ESPN comments, not the alleged substance abuse.

So you did, but if I actually read all the posts I'd never get to comment before post #2056.

I think the cosequence of the drug story is to put the ESPN comments on the back burner forever. After Mike Savage's experience with MSNBC it was just a matter of time until the Libs knocked down Rush too. They were also successful with Lott. Which Republican icon will they hit next? And more importantly will the Republican party join in the attack?

It was nice to see Dubya supporting Rush yesterday even after the ESPN story.

Rush is doing just fine today. No problems.

Those people who suppport Rush, will probably continue to support him and listen to his show. Those people who are the social fencesitters and PC nincompoops, take everything personally no matter what happens. They will probably remain wishy washy about Rush. I don't see Rush being effected by the ESPN flap.

The drug deal is another matter. A pending legal matter. I doubt Rush will ever have much to say about it, especially while the LE investigation is still ongoing.

Agreed. If he was totally innocent, THAT is what anyone would say. I am not convicting him here, but by NOT saying "I am innocent", he was most probably doing some drugs. He should at least take an extended vacation to deal with his mdical & legal problems.

I agree, he should have never come on the air today, and regrouped and made a game plan. Very bad decision.

All I said was he handled it badly and his comments that he doesn't know what he is dealing with is not truthful and insulting.

Keep in mind that this "thing" will eventually boil down to HeSaid/SheSaid. Lets assume its all lies by the folks involved. Lets assume Rush responds before the liars lay out their "full case".

If Rush responds and defends himself by stating facts he then gives the accusers room to avoid making an accusation that could easily be disproved. If he lets the accusers make their case then he can use their claims to rebut their credibilty.

Secondly, the papers have not yet published the allegations and it may be that they lack sufficient evidence to publish the story. If Rush denies the allegations that have been floated the paper will then be free to run the story based on Rush denials which are true. Right now it would have to get the allegations past the attorneys to publish the accusations.

I'm sure Franken could accommodate, literally, anything up his a$$. How he fits the whole lamestream media up there is beyond me and defies scientific explanation.

addicted to painkillers and continuing to use them AFTER the condition causing chronic pain has passed, using pain-killers to get high.

Stoping the use of painkillers can cause chronic pain.

I am amazed at all the hysteria around here.

Everyone is wondering why Rush has not come to expeditiously plead "Guilty" or "Not Guilty" to, as yet unknown, drug allegations.

Obviously not many people here have been involved in, or been part of 'criminal' investigations.

When government authorities are in the midst of gathering evidence for potential violations of, and prosecution under, a criminal code. EVERYONE they THINK could be connected, or involved in some way, is deemed to be worthy of interview, and/or 'investigation'.

Even the "innocent" (those who may have been 'involved' in some fashion, but not 'criminally' liable), have to be careful and seek 'legal' protection. WHY? Because the government authorities don't 'always' care about your innocence, and will seek to include you in their dragnet.

In the best case scenario, it is POSSIBLE that Rush may have been 'involved' in SOME way in this entire situation, but not 'criminally', and there could be 'dark forces' out there to 'push' evidence/testimony on him into the 'criminal' part, which could make this a more 'complicated' set of events.....and may explain why he said he does not know the "entire scope" of this situation at this very moment.

You are demanding that Rush tells you what's going on.

OK, Mr. Reading Comprehension, please show me where I demanded anything.

I merely noted that he wasn’t going to answer the question.

That’s his right. And I never said otherwise.

Look, if someone makes an allegation that you are buying illegal drugs, and you are *completely* innocent, why not just say, "it never happened, I am not involved, or, this is not true".

You're right, Rush is probably not *completely* innocent. On the other hand, the extent of his guilt may not be that great. It's possible that he was addicted for a period of time and then was able to shake the habit, in which case the best course of action for him would be the one he's taking now.

We'll all find out the truth within a couple weeks. Most likely Rush had a problem and either has already dealt with it or is currently in rehab.

I think you are right. Maybe using another word to describe her would be better.

I have one in mind. It rymes with "hunt".

Also, what if she gets busted and thrown in jail for 5 years for this? Even consider that? Prescription fraud is a serious felony.

She does not commit prescription fraud. She buys pills from those who have them. They relieve her pain; they allow her to live a life; they have brought relief from what was quite visibly a devastating condition.

If she gets "busted" and jailed, it would be because society sucks and has immoral laws. It would not be because she is doing anything wrong.

Yes it can, that's why you never EVER take more than is prescribed and you ween off them as ordered.

Doing otherwise to feel good is how you get addicted, and how you ruin your life.
