Scroll-down the above linked-page to listen to "Director Carles Bosch discusses his documentary about the massive Cuban exodus of 1994, Balseros."

About Twelve-minutes into the interview, you will hear the author say some immigrants even approved of Castro--but came to the U.S. to make money.

You will also hear how the U.S. recognizes that it is within the power of Cuba to keep its people from leaving to come here.

Why can it not be in the power of Mexico to control its citizens? Why in the case of Mexico, must it be America's job to keep them out?

Let Mexico, like Cuba, keep its people from coming here.

Once illegals are legalized, sure you have to pay them real wages, which creates a vacuum for low-paid labor into which will pour millions of new illegals.

Right. It still brings their wages up. So my point stands.

You want to get rid of illegals? Tax them. Fine them. Make it cost them CASH.

I see you just joined up today.

Illegals when found should be deported as soon as possible. They broke the law coming here and cut in line in front of thousands of people trying to get in here legally.

The added supply of legal workers will also bring downward pressure on the cost of legal wages, thereby hurting the cause of unionized labor.

(Though not necessarily the cause of union bosses, who may see in this, legions of new fee-paying members, and with the pressure to reduce wages, a greater demand for unions and their bosses).

some 18 buses carrying about 900 activists and immigrant workers will embark

Seems to me the owners of those buses must be breaking some law when they knowingly transport illegal invaders about the country.

The whole convoy should probably be arrested.

I don't disagree. But it will hurt them less if these workers are legal.

And how long before more illegals stream accross the border to take their place?

You mention the formerly Catholic Church, the one which was a direct agent of God? They were bought lock, stock & barrel by the government. They are now a wholly owned subsidiary of the US Government. They spend Federal tax money to violate the Federal laws ( on immigration ). Fact.

I bet the rank-and-file auto-workers aren't thrilled about this, only the corrupt union heads.

Very true. I live in a union town, and the workers aren't happy about Bush's policies at all because they know that soon illegals will be competing for their jobs. The union leaders must be getting some kind of payoff for selling their brothers out.

What we really need to do is fine the companies that hire them. Fine them big not just a couple of grand. More like $100K for each illegal. Then see where this goes.

For years the Grayhound Lines have employed a 'device' of ownership-seperating the traffic in illegals from the main lines. Americanos & other 'lines' owned by exec's, seprated from the main buisness.

A fine source on illegals & immigration is a small town paper in North Carolina,

http://www.alamanceind.com/newfol~4/immig.html Check it out. Many stroies & links.

These "workers" must be getting some great perks from their "employers" - such as 2 WEEKS OFF TO TRAVEL in this parade of whining, lawbreaking victim-class warriors.

Freepers must be planning to Freep these rallies, right ?

I don't think the flow of illegals is dependent on all that.

This nonsense of illegals coming here to work is just a smokescreen. If they really wanted to work all they had to do was sit and wait on their front porch because all our manufacturing jobs were and are GOING TO THEM!Even if they were coming here to work they still have NO RIGHT TO BE HERE.

The flood of legal immigrants from Asia for the past decade sure hasn't slow-down illegal Mexicans.

What makes you think legalizing the current illegals will put a dent in the numbers of Mexicans eager to work here for peanuts, a Mexican population shortage?
