and all they are left trying to resolve are the aspects related to her giving up her land for Costco, lest she have a 4 lane highway 12 feet from her front door.

I don't buy that explanation for the simple reason that there is no way they should have let her keep the house if they were going to be putting pavement 12 feet from the front door.

It sounds like all involved are stupid to the point of absurdity. If not for abuse of power, Cagle should lose his job for incompetence.

I lived in Ft. Worth Texas during the early '80s. I remember a story where the city school district made the 'hard decision' to close 4 or 5 elementary schools as part of a budget and consolidation plan. The district repeated over and over that the decisions were soundly backed by data and no politics and that the decisions were firm. Then a curious thing happend - somebody did a little research on one of the properties and found that the land had beed deeded over to the school district with the stipulation that if it ever was used for anything other than a school, the property would return to the estate of the original owner. Well, all of of sudden, those firm decisions - based on firm data just had to be 'reviewed'. the end result? Another school was substituted - but I guess you already knew that by now. Sure! I know you did.

Thanks, I spent a year in Iceland courtesy of the U.S. Navy and all my research indicates that my family name traces back to the Vikings. I like the idea about reciting all the laws, it is obvious now that no one person could have the foggiest notion of all the laws in this country and yet somehow we are expected to live by them even though in many cases you would have to break one law in obeying another.
