because the first two times I read the headline I saw "Israel". LOL. I read it, but had to review, too. It didn't make sense. "What has Israel got to do with Virginia?"
I guess there's been so much news from there lately, it's burned into our brains! LOL.
Anyway, I hope this baby burns itself out in a hurry. It's pretty frightening. No one can stop it.

I was watching the news yesterday wondering why there weren't Energizer and Duracell ads running every 15 minutes. I guess they spent all their money on the prize fighting sponsorships (NASCAR!)

Seriously, if there are any Freepers in the Fredericksburg area who have not made preparations, I think Steve & I are as ready as it's possible to be - food, water, batteries, propane, kerosene, sanitation bucket, whiskey, cigarettes, ammunition...I do wish we'd gotten around to buying a generator. If anybody is stuck, let us know.

I don't think they really need to goad many into buying their products right now.
That would be almost like a National Oxygen Council running ads saying, "Air, it's what you breathe."

I wonder if there'll be a C or D cell battery available in Virginia by tomorrow. There were none on the eastern shore at 2 this afternoon.

From the current track...the storm is forecast to be a fast mover. A fast moving storm is generally accompanined by stronger winds.

Indeed. I don't think the DC area is going to escape the rain. Old Town Alexandria is probably going to get flooding, at the very least. I just know that you face a bigger threat, being on the Eastern Shore. Stay safe!

For our old sailboat, we bought ourselves a wind-up flashlight (more like a 6 volt-type lantern) made by FreePlay. It worked out pretty well. Of course, we always keep a stock of batteries in the fridge (AAA, AA, C & D), but we're weird that way. We both lived in areas that had frequent power outages.
But it figured there'd be a run on batteries, water, canned food--I just hope people remember the manual can openers.

State of Emergency Declared to Mobilize Virginia for Hurricane
(AP)-Gov. Mark R. Warner declared a state of emergency in Virginia on Monday to brace the state for Hurricane Isabel, which was on course to smash into the East Coast as early as Thursday.
The declaration places the National Guard, the State Police and the Department of Transportation on full alert for what Warner said could be significant flooding across an already waterlogged state as well as wind and tornado damage.
Isabel, 350 miles wide and packing winds of about 150 miles-per-hour, was churning its way toward the U.S. mainland Monday, where forecasters predict landfall would most likely be from the Carolinas northward.
Warner called on Virginians statewide to be prepared to move to higher ground, tie down garbage cans and lawn furniture that could become missiles in high winds and prepare for three to seven days without electricity.
He met privately Monday afternoon with state law-enforcement, military, emergency preparedness and transportation officials.
The last Hurricane to affect Virginia was in 1999, when Hurricane Floyd caused widespread flooding damage, particularly in Franklin and Southampton County.
Franklin's downtown business district was almost completely inundated and is still struggling

Vrgn nds vwls! Not really - it is historically SOP for weather teletype reports to be heavy on abbreviations - especially if it is an important alert.
