This herb which my Father has given us, all, shall we not eat of it? By logical extention, since you here are speaking beyond the text...
This hemlock which my Father has given us, all, shall we not drink it? I mean, logically, it works right? Since all things are given to use for our use, and it is only what proceeds out of a man's mouth that befouls him...

Our laws govern moral behaviorWhy? Do we hope to make people moral by punishing them for immorality?

"Do we hope to make people moral by punishing them for immorality?"No more so than making people safe drivers by punishing them for speeding.

No more so than making people safe drivers by punishing them for speeding.
Then what is the point of laws against immorality that violates nobody's rights (unlike speeding, which violates others' rights by directly endangering them)?

Driving is a privilege not a natural right.
It reguires we share certain limits to insure the safety and rights of others.
To: MrLeRoy
The laws are necessary, unfortunately, because some people govern their lives by what is legal.
To: PaxMacian
And a natural right carries no such responsibilies to others?

Show me where it says in the Bible that gold was given to mankind.
Acts 17:29
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Penicillin is mold and I am certain the Bible doesn't say mold was a gift from God. Nor fungus, yet we can buy mushrooms in the grocery store which are many times more carcinongenic then substances the FDA bans.

I thought you said we don't hope to make people moral by punishing them for immorality. This latest statement seems to say that we do so hope.

Government has been given no power to regulate gifts from God or to wage war upon citizenry for possessing or protecting these gifts. Keep hawking your unjust war in the name of God and you will find yourself in hell along with your beloved DEAmen. Response to this one seems to have dropped off the edge of the Net...

Correct!
Just as a man defending himself in a life threatening situation may justly take the life of another because
the right to self preservation is a natural right which
no other may transgress. What other's rights are transgressed
by a possessor or protector of herb?

Penicillin is mold and I am certain the Bible doesn't say mold was a gift from God. Nor fungus, yet we can buy mushrooms in the grocery store which are many times more carcinongenic then substances the FDA bans. So you are proposing that we should regulate grocery store mushrooms, but not pot?

Don't you mean pot smoker?

"I thought you said we don't hope to make people moral by punishing them for immorality. This latest statement seems to say that we do so hope.'Your question was, "Do we hope to make people moral?"
I don't believe that a law against immorality will make people moral. It may, however, alter their behavior to conform to community standards.
To: 50sDad
I am particularly careful never to phrase my sentences to create a curse. The sentence describes a state which will occur IF conditions opposing the word and will of God are maintained.
Romans 9:32
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

Just pointing to inconsistencies in the governments position on protection regarding food consumption.
To: 50sDad
No logic at all. Hemlock is not an herb.
Moreover, the standard non-scientific definition of herb is
a plant or plant part valued for its medicinal, savory, or aromatic qualities. If you attempt to plug into the Bible the broader scientific classification you twist the Bible into saying things that it does not and could not say. Using science to disprove the word is ridiculous.
