You have internal numbers that say McClintock maxes at 15%?

You are correct. You, and I, do not have the desire, drive, and ambition to be that successful.
Your comment could lead into a whole discussion on one's values. Obviously, people who choose to become teachers are not likely to earn $30 million a year - even if those teachers do have the "desire, drive and ambition" to be the very best teacher possible.
I was always turned off by Jon Corzine's candidacy in NJ because here is what he did: (1) Divorced his wife; (2) Dumped his kids; (3) Then ran for NJ senator; (4) Paid a staggering sum of bucks for the seat of power he wanted; and all the while, (5) went around saying he identified SOOOO Much with the Little People.
Well, yes, he won the race, but I still think he doesn't know jack about how his wife or kids or others might think about certain issues. And, yes, people voted for him, but I would not have, for a variety of reasons.
If that's what you mean by "desire, drive and ambition" you're right - I do not have enough of "it."

Great news. I'm sure he will be rewarded by the GOP in some way at some point in the future.
No doubt there is a call for Mr. Tom McClintock...

I'm worried about one thing and that is the wording of the ballot on the proposition to remove Davis. Does anyone know what the ballot will look like and whether it could cause ANY confusion???? Not that the Dems are sneaky or anything.

Wait a sec... Is it 4% or 15% ? All the RINOs have been running around claiming McClintock is at 4% ! You guys can't even get your propaganda straight !

Fox just reported that Arianna paid $700 in federal taxes and ZERO in state taxes for the last two years. "Well, you know, I just had other things to do with my money. And besides, the little people paid a lot of taxes, and so they didn't really need mine."
Last week she was being questioned, I think by Brit Hume on FOX, and he asked about her low polling numbers. Ariana responded by saying "Well, 45% of people dont' have faith in these polls anyway". And Brit said: "Wasn't that from a poll?". To which Air-head-iana replied: "No, it wasn't a poll, it was a survey!" LOLOLOL!!!! What a moron.
To: Howlin
Demorats count on such feelings to raise taxes on the wealthy. Don't worry about Arianna, it's purely a publicity stunt in her case. No doubt the recall election laws will be promptly updated to prevent candidates of her ilk in the future.

If Buchanan were to run again, I wouldn't vote for him. I think he made his point and sadly nobody listened. Okay, we're living in the aftermath. Even today folks damn him for his immigration stance, even after 09/11.
He was so demonized by the press and members of his own party, that he is not only unelectable, but if he said the sun comes up and causes daylight, bashers would swarm the thread to call him an anti-Semite racist who was never right in his life.
I voted for Buchanan in 2000. I know where you're coming from. Installing a man the likes of BustAztlante on principle, by thowing your vote away, is a pretty tough sell, even for me.

Doing voter registration today...should be interesting. R's have been doing really well since this recall started and hopefully Arnie will bring in some new voters!
To: TheBattman
McClintock would probably be the best medicine for California - unfortunately, he's too conservative to get elected (my humble opinion). I agree with you. And I understand the sincere opinions of those who support McClintock. But the "reality question" is something that we Republican conservatives have to consider, and it's happening all across the country. Do we bend a bit and go with a candidate who isn't 100 percent conservative, or do we get on board with a coalition who will give us some of the conservative issues we want, and play with the middle of the roaders and even liberals on other issues?
I'm not a CA resident, so it's their decision. But I personally am excited by Arnold's candidacy. (And I understand and respect the opinions of those on FR who disagree with me.)

Interesting.
We will see. I just can't imagine many folks against Davis being against the recall, but at the same time, hatred at the GOP for trying to "steal the election" could be a big deal since that might motivate Dems against the recall altogether.

I was thinking about people who start out with nothing but themselves, and become extremely successful. The money is merely one indicator of success. Can a person become wealthy and remember what it was like to be poor, or at least, not wealthy? You will have to judge that for yourself. Me, I would like to find out for myself. :) Rush and Hannity often talk about what it was like in their "less successful" days.

Being a strong backup #2 might be a strategic plus right now

Those who support Arnold are RINO's themselves. Hence, the reason they support a RINO candidate.

I think it is
AT LEAST A 50/50 CHANCE
that negative stuff about Arnold at this point
will ONLY end up causing the common man to identify with Arnold MORE
and against the pontificators and media types ranting about it as well as Grey Sewerwater Davis trying to take advantage of it.
And if Tom McClintock tries to take advantage of it with his smug, slightly condescending, self-righteous demeanor tries to take advantage of it--he will be terminal toast politically for a long time to come.

Agreed!
Simple fact: this is a poltical party that encompasses a variety of views.
The lack of tolerance within the Republican Party from a very vocal FEW within the party is what hurts the entire party, by fueling the fire that Republicans are "mean spirited" and "intolerant".

Bill Simon is to be commended for doing the manly thing.
If Arnold crashes when the sludge attack comes after Labor Day and the GOP fails to recall Davis, Simon would have gotten the brunt of the criticism for waging a vanity campaign. Hugh Hewett and all the "pragmatist RINOs" had already tarketed Simon for this scapegoat role.
If the GOP un-seats Davis, Simon will be clean and heroically poised to take on Boxer or something else, down the road.
Well played, Bill. I know it hurts, but you did the "right thing at the right moment".

Most of the people on this forum would gladly watch McClintock sworn in on the capital steps. What I can't understand is why you would rather see BustAzltante voted in over Schwarzenegger. That's what all your negativism is going to gain you if you get your way.
As much as I'd like to see it, McClintock simply isn't going to garner the votes you want him to. The only alternative for you, is Bustamove in office for as long as 12.5 years.
If Schwarzenegger pulls out, McClintock will NOT get all his votes. People are registering just for the sole purpose of voting for Schwarzenegger. Do you think they and the democrats he is pulling over are going to vote for McClintock?
You need to think about this a lot more.

From
SFGate.com......
(08-23) 09:38 PDT (AP) --
Forbes said Simon planned to release a statement at 11 a.m. saying: "I strongly believe that the desire of Californians must come before the aspirations of any single candidate. There are too many Republicans in this race and the people of this state simply cannot risk a continuation of the Gray Davis legacy."
Forbes denied Simon's move came in response to any pressure from the party.
"There was absolutely no pressure, no phone calls -- this was a decision made by Bill Simon based on rational conclusions," Forbes said.
He said Simon would not be available for interviews.
Who the hell is "Forbes"?
