HOW LOW CAN THEY GO?

HEMLINES may rise and fall with every passing season, but jeans just seem to keep falling. And falling. And falling. Denim that actually hits your waist - instead of your hips - seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur.

How hard is it for the parents in this article to say NO? Do you want your daughter dressing with her butt crack showing or not?

Sorry, but some parents are complete idiots!

"I try and tell her to get something a little bit higher. But no matter what, she's still going to wear them."

Jelly-brained morons like her should not be allowed to reproduce. She can't ensure that her daughter not leave the house dressing and acting like a slut/ho?

This is one reason why society is degrading.

Of course, idiots like this get to reproduce...the word "no" isn't even in her vocabulary.

She's too damn concerned with being her kid's friend as opposed to being her kid's parent.

Just damn.

Fact is, these fashions are suitable only for young women with perfect bodies. If you've ever seen "overhang," you'll know what I mean.

And on young women, they send a not-so-subtle message that all the pimps in the fashion industry are trying to deny: "I'm showing my body because I can be had."

Yet these same women will demand that men "respect" them and concede their "equality" in every way.

Dress like a ho, get treated like a ho.

As the father of three very young girls, I am already steeling myself for the fashion battles to come. If we think its bad now, just wait ten years, I shudder to think what'll be fashionable when my girls are in their teens. But I'll be damnned if my daughters are going to leave my house looking like a cheap whore.

Hey, you don't want her daughter to realize she's acting like a skank, do ya? It might impact her self-esteem. < /sarcasm>

I have 3 myself and I'm just starting to get into the battles with my oldest.

I told her that we either compromise or I'll she'll wear what I pick out and they won't like it at all.

So far it's working

Another example of parents abdicating responsibility. These are kids, not adults, and their parents most certainly have the authority to tell them what they can wear/not wear and buy/not buy. I went shopping with my daughter until she went off to college (by which time, it was well-ingrained in her to dress sensibly but fashionably). If it was too tight, too revealing, it was a thumbs-down. Simple as that.

You might want to politely ask the Admin Moderator to add something like (low rider jeans) or (fashion) in parenthesis to the title. That way, people will know what the article is about and you will probably get more posts.

Funny, was born in the late seventies. I hardly grew up in the 'good old days'. I couldn't leave the house with my shirt untucked or wearing a baseball cap, let lone wearing any of the crap people wear all the time. What can I tell you?

I don't hate to say it ;o)

Low cut jeans look great on young women with nice bodies and great stomachs. I love the look. However, some of the really low ones just look incredibly trashy/slutty and visually don't enhance the natural beauty of god's greatest creation.

I feel similarly about string bikinis....the string bikini design, IMO does not compliment the natural curves of a well shaped woman.

Back around 1971 or 72, I remember these things being very fashionable. A girlfriend of mine, who could carry it off well, had a pair of hiphuggers that had a zipper only about 3" long, maybe a 4-5" rise. On the short end, but not the shortest I saw. Needed a bikini wax to wear them, and no underwear were available that didn't show. Even her lowest cut bikini would show. She wore them with 'tiny triangles' bikini top. Then she discovered string bikinis: came up a bit higher, but nothing on the sides or back, to speak of. I must say I was a happy consumer of the view and accessability.

So what's new? In the 1960's and 70's low rider jeans were all the rage. Girls wore jeans at their hips and lower. Skirts were way up there as well. Clothing was far more "provocative" than the stuff out there now. This fad is nothing new, just a rehash of styles put out by boring designers.

The only difference I can see is that there are lots more fat women wearing these clothes than in the past. Disgusting.

We had a girl who used to work here that wore low-cut pants. Only problem was that she weighed over 250 lbs.

Every time she bent over, the pants almost exploded.

The worst was the morning I turned around and got a nasty eyeful of "plumber's crack". EWWWW!

Needless to say, some people really shouldn't be wearing things like that.

My mother would have slapped the taste out of my mouth if I attempted to wear something like that when I was a teenager. I would have caught it not only for the attempt but the complaining and back talk I would have given. I never wanted to wear anything like that. I was too self conscious at that age (still am).

Bingo. As a healthy, red-blooded American man, I can enjoy eye candy without lamenting the fall of our society. But when the jiggle is in the middle, keep it to yourself.

BUT...I do think it's disturbing to see very young girls embracing the style. At least boys aren't running around in banana hammocks.

Things changed from the miniskirt (and micromini) of the 1960s. Clothing covered up a lot for awhile. Of course I don't think that JCPenney's was selling microminis to gradeschoolers in the 1960s or encouraging them to wear such dresses without underwear like the 18-23 crowd was doing.

Some time ago, when my daughter was in HS, she wanted to dress somewhat like the photos shown below. Now, I am definitely not a prude, and FReeper trinity1 can pull the look together, but I put my foot down (this was in the late '80s) Now, after the screaming died down, she realised that her parents (yes, we are a 2 parent family, and have celebrated our 34th) may have had a good point, and began dressing for success. Although all was not perfect (she got divorced in 9 months, we are happy to have her home with us again) she has done quite well for herself. IMHO, this trend ranks right up there with multiple piercings as the worst career advancement tool that exists..

While I must admit that it is sometimes pleasant to look on such inspiring sights as the wearers of the jeans mentioned in the article (please don't mention this to mrs gwmoore LOL) Those young females are going to find that if they are determined to dress like ho's, they are gonna be treated like ho's, and at some point, all the agitprop about "it's not her fault" is going to fall apart. Learning how to dress for the real world, and a real career is a valuable learning experience that is vital. To allow this in the schools is just plain dumb, and will result in the usual outcome.
