As for Arnold and Tom, my hope is that "Team Arnold" makes McClintock "an offer that he cannot refuse" - perhaps to be the "Budget Director" in his new administration - in exchange for a last-minute endorsement of Arnold.

It will never happen. 'Team Arnold' is composed of the liberal pukes that ran the Wilson Administration. They are the people that rammed through the largest tax increase in history within months of Wilson's election. Tom McClintock has fought against these people for years. They DESPISE Tom McClintock... and he wouldn't accept it anyway.

If Wilson II (Arnold) wins this, grab your wallet.

ANYONE endorsing Liberal Arnold goes entirely against all of the values I hold dear.

I guess common sense is not one of those values...

I would keep my powder dry if I were you.

LOL...I will keep my powder dry and will not jump on board this runaway Arnold train (errr bandwagon) until when and if it is only between Arnold and Cruz.

Even a RINO would be better than a RAT with Mexifornia leanings...

I mean, think of it like this...

Simon is such a weakling that he couldn't even beat a cripple in a one-on-one fight...
Now he thinks he can take on a whole dogpile that includes muscle-man Arnold??

I think not.

..Aunold played that old scheme of "I can't hear you" when asked on NBC today if he would release his tax returns..

I heard that he couldn't hear the question because the producer was telling him
the segment was over right then. I don't see this as an issue, since he in fact
released his taxes the next day.

Well-put; more or less my thought. The election was his to lose, and by golly, he found a way to lose it. Not NEARLY enough time for redemption has passed, and in the meanwhile as far as I know he's accomplished NOTHING.

No Mulligans in this one, Mr. Simon. Sit it out.

The title of this little inspiration story ought to be called

DAVIS RECALL—THIS TIME WERE RUNNING MORE THAN THE VILLAGE IDIOT

This recall isn't about Simple Simon, and the idea that Simon could win is laughable in itself, but the idea that Republicans would be energized and rainbows and lollipops would start sprouting up everywhere is utterly delusional. Simple Simon is such an embarassment that his winning would only shame Republicans away from the polls for another 10 years.

I should know, I was too ashamed to vote last election. And you know what, I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I'd much rather have a second chance to choose SOMEONE ELSE other than Davis OR Simon.

I guess common sense is not one of those values...

There is no common sense to kicking out one liberal and then repalicng him with another one.

Common sense is adhering to the Republican conservative values that made this nation great. It's not about cheering on election night. Its about the governing that goes on afterwards.

RonDog, you nailed it, buddy.

I really worked hard for Bill Simon, the first go around. I still believe he would be the kind of guy that would get the job done well, and be as honest as a person in that position can. I think the world of his wife, and really felt badly that his original campaign was so poorly run, and no matter what he did, it just seemed to be the wrong thing.

That said, your points are valid, and I do NOT believe that a true Conservative can win, in California, at this point in time. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about McClintock, as well, but reality check time, gentlemen...it's NOT going to happen in this State. Progress toward THIS State becoming Republican again is going to be REALLY slow, but we CAN make steady progress. We MUST understand that in CA you HAVE to be able to "work" the media. Getting CA back on track is as much of a PR campaign as it is an issue campaign. CA needs Arnold to inspire all the sheep people (and there's plenty of them) that they can be better people, they can have a better life, by adopting some of the same personal responsibilities and goals that he set for himself, and is now a very successful American. These are all Republican values, (hand up, not out values) my friends. Arnold is worth his weight in gold in that dept. --Look what he did today, with the kids and the media..."Look, they are ahll hereah for you...thank them for their support in after-school prograhms." It came out so casual, so natural, and the media was left laughing and thinking that he included them--they were totally disarmed by the moment--he had them in the palm of his hand!

It's not selling out, but simply backing a winning ticket that has the best chance of elevating the status of the Republican Party in CA. It actually just being realistic, using sound judgment, and, quite frankly, taking Issa's class act, lead...

All in IMHO....

Sorry, Mike.

Bill Simon is a nice guy, and a fine businessman. He might make a good Congressman someday, if he runs in a safe Republican district. He might even make a good Senator.

But he blew a chance to upset Davis last year in the most incompetent political campaign in the history of Western Civilization. Bill Simon couldn't get elected towel boy in a whorehouse in California. That's the idea. Being a conservative is great, but it helps to win 51% of the vote.

Simon went up against one of the most unpopular governor's in California history. The Republicans could have run Reinhard Heydrich or Sepp Dietrich and beat Davis. But no, they ran Simple Simon, who blew a good chance to nail down California for us.

Painful to lose to one of the most despised politicians in California history like that....

It's like losing to Arafat at a B'nai B'rith convention.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I voted for him. Everyone I knew was voting for him until... On Election Day, I found out my pro 2nd amendment boss voted for Gray-out because he thought Simon was a crook.

Simon didn't have what it took to win then and he really doesn't have it now.

Our choices, vote for a true conservative, McClintock and elect Cruz or vote for a RINO but someone with a chance to win.

It looks like Ahnold or Gary Coleman are the only two with a chance and I'll have to vote for the immigrant success story who donated almost 25% of his massive salary to charity. He may be a social liberal but at least he puts HIS money where his mouth is. I just don't want him to put my money there. He also voted for prop 187 for which he'll be crucified but n word Cruz has that vote locked up anyway.

Of course the true blue conservatives will say no compromise like I said last November and we got the wonderful and colorful Grey. Not again damn it.

Howard Phillips is endorsing Tom McClintock.

Thats the kiss of death for McClintock as far as I'm concerned. Phillips isn't even a Republican, hes with the Constamatooshin Party, a bizarre mix of people who get mad about the Voting Rights Act, and who pretty much adopted the Dixiecrat platform of 1948.

Dream on loser. We're not going to make the mistake of voting for you again after your pathetic performance last year.

Well, Arnold is not a liberal, so it'll work out just fine.
I imagine you are one of those who thinks "christian values" displayed in the most judgemental light is what makes a "conservative".

If this is as I suspect, you are wrong. That's not not "conservative", that's religious-right. Perhaps you should retool your attacks on Arnold from "not conservative" to "not right-wing fundamentalist". That would at least be more honest.

Personally I'd much rather keep company with so-called "RINOS" than that sort.

But then again, how much money have you given to your church lately? Arnold gave $2 million, so maybe he's got you beat on piety too...

Could you post intelligent conversation rather than your "there is only one cadidate..." spam. It is annoying and you are turning possible McClintock supporters off.

As I have been saying for days, whoever is elected will have to turn this state around dramatically within 3 years

Kelly, give it up. This is the way it plays out: Issa is the good guy now, so he has a clear shot at the R nomination for Senator. Tom is going to get an offer he can't refuse from Arnie; perhaps budget director or some other high-profile position.

This will put him in position to run for Lt.Gov, Controller, etc in 2004. He will take the offer because it will be a tremendous boost to his name recognition factor.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that these telco/dinner conversations are taking place right now - perhaps even at this very hour. There's a reason Wilson, Riordin et al are handling the hands-on issues - they're the guys doing the back-room deals.

Oh, and by the way, Simon is SOL no matter which way he turns. NO soup for him!

I think Arnold needs to twist Simon's arm til he drops out... literally.

I'd pay to see that!
