To finish the story:

Police said they went to Hoffman's home and he allegedly lied about his name. He denied taking DiVita's bird.

Well, he didn't...well not exactly...well he took it to the washing machine...but he didn't take it.

I take in homeless and handicapped parrots, and they're like my children. They are the most intelligent and sensitive pets I've ever had, and I've had just about every animal there is at one time or another.

If this SOB had tried to take one of my birds, wrapped him in a towel and stuck him in a washing machine, probably causing him permanent trauma, then told me he was dead, he'd be facing a lot more than jail time. He'd be facing me waiting for him the second he got out, and by the time I was through with him, there'd be so little of him left, you could wrap him up in a wash rag.

I would just like to thank you all for all these comments. I was googling my family when I ran across this topic. I was the girl, Emily DiVita who found our bird in our washing machine. I needed to get the stress off my mind, so I was headed for a friends house. I went down stairs to get a change of clothes when his head popped out... A very dramatic moment. Just, thank you all. I was in 3rd grade when this happened, and I am now a sophomore. Rocky is still alive to this day.
