For centuries in many cultures people have married as virgins and discovered love together. This is what’s natural, not experimenting and then dumping the person when you decide you’re not “sexually compatible.” Why would being “experienced” make either person a better spouse? What do you have to “discover” during the engagement about the other person that could not be smoothed out between any normal, healthy young couple? All experience does is clutter your marriage with memories, comparisons, and hence confusion and even frustration, that is not a problem for two young people who begin together. Sure, there might be some awkward moments at first, so what, I’m sure they plan to spend their entire lives together. Also they will have a much stronger bond of trust when each knows from courtship experience that he/she is respected and held in a special role by the other. They start out knowing the other is capable of fidelity and self-control.
Oh, my gosh, that’s hilarious, I didn’t realize this was 5 years old....time to do a follow-up study with these Baptists and see how their marriages are coming along. Really, it would be interesting to compare the “virginal” marriages to the, what?, “secular” ones, and see if there is more lasting success or satisfaction in either group.
