Also, thought it was moronic to try and track down all those people who share music files. However, never fear, it will be a long day in Juvember before I ever buy any music again.

Is there any easy way to identify without opening RIAA-affiliated CD's? No reason to punish artists not affiliated with the RIAA, after all.

By the RIAA definition - is it ILLEGAL to buy a CD at a yard sale?

Not all CDs and LPs are issued by RIAA members. Here is a link to the membership list:

I have purchased a few new LPs this year, but I see that their labels are not on the list.

Is it sane? The RIAA thinks it is very sane to attack, at random, individuals, and to take a look at their hard drives to see if there was ever a track downloaded that the person under their guns still has somewhere.

let me get this straight: they see you downloading a file, then they hack your pc and peruse your files to see if you actually kept it somewhere?

Problem Number One is that the copyright is good for 95 years. A patent is only good for 17 or 20 years.

Copyrights should go for no longer than a patent.

Trademarks should be allowed for as long as the owner pays the fee.

I have a hard time justifying a boycott against an organization that uses legal means to protect the interests of its willing customers and prevents them from being robbed blind by downloaders.

I'll be buying some classical CDs this week, and I'll make sure the record company is a RIAA member before making my purchases.
