He needs to be committed for life. Letting him go turns all of his new neighbors into his potential victims.

"I'm tired of hurting people," says Mathers, 51. "It's really the furthest thing from my mind when I leave the island."

he has to tell prospective employers that he's a sexually violent predator. He must recite his convictions for child molestation, rape and serial escape, crimes that have kept him behind bars most of his life.

Have to agree that would take the starch out of any job interview.

Maybe a little resume editing could help:

a sexually violent predator

Very enthusiastic in his relationships

convictions for child molestation,

Loves to be around children

rape and serial escape

Not afraid to take risks

behind bars most of his life

Long time memeber of the community

The last time he was arrested, he should have [wink] tried
to escape. That would have saved time and $$$.

If he is able to take the next step and move to the mainland, the intricate web of security around him will cost the state nearly $740,000 the first year, making him one of the most costly men in state custody.

And we went into a special session of the legislature to get a budget that avoided a tax increase. Gotta love a state where we have to pay 750000 a year on one sex offender. And then there's the whole thing about CA not being able to find a place for one of their sex offenders and him coming up to live in WA. I know it's politically incorrect, but I really don't see the problem with just putting them on McNeil Island for the rest of their lives.

This guy has no handle on his desires. He needs to serve his country behind bars.
It's in his best interest... and ours.

"Every one of our conditions is geared toward the maximum of community protection while getting them out into the community," McGrann said. "It has been a daunting task."

And it's going to fail. If the man serves his time, you have to cut him loose. Trying to teach a man to avert his eyes from the the world seems scarier than anything else.

If California can send the convicted child molester Brian DeVries to Washington...there is no reason Washington can't return the favor. All perverts from Washington should be paroled to Sacramento. As close as possible to the homes of the judges and legislators.

This is another one of those ultra left wing urban myths. It is a lot like the lefty's view of transgender freaks, although certainly not as dangerous.

These bleeding heart liberals believe it is approprite to force society to participate in the therapy of some freak or deviant.

If this is the court's views on child molestors, then the legislature should shift the offense from a criminal issue to a disease issue. This guy will never be normal. He will offend again and molest some kid that had a right to feel safe. Then they'll put the blame on a couple of state employees (room temperature IQs to start with) because they printed the warning on blue paper instead of green paper.

It is the job of our government to keep us safe, not to build a new and expensive live for thsoe who can do us harm. He had his chance and failed.

How about capital punishment? Paying $272,000 a year to keep him alive is a WASTE.

The governor of Washington probably needs a groundskeeper or chauffeur, right? He can live in the governor's mansion and be watched over by those loving people who gave the state such kind and merciful laws.

"He can take escorted walks on Tacoma's Ruston Way"

Ruston Way is near Point Defiance Park.....he could get so lost among families/fairs, etc there on weekends, or take a little walk in the forest there...or ferry over to Vashon Island.....

Put them in jail, have them make license plates (or whatever), give 'em three hots & a cot, let them read the Bible, Shakespere, Dickens, and other edifying works, show them a movie once in a while, and other than that, forget 'em.

They had a chance, they blew it big time. "I'm tired of hurting people" he has the nerve to say this? We're tired of you doing so, now rot and be happy you weren't executed.

We need to require a politician to sponsor freaks like this if they insist on releasing them. Have this guy live with Jim MacDermott,Commie,Seattle, Senator Osama Momma Murray, Dim, Senator Maria CantVOTEwell,Dim.

The politician would be required to house, employ, and be responsible for the actions of the freak. We could implant the pervert, sex offender not politician, with a GPS chip that would send a signal to another implanted control device that emits an electrical charge to a neurotransmitter in the host, (politician),that generates excruciating pain in the groin area while dialing 911 if the sex criminal ventures off beyond a predetermined distance.

That is the kind of release option I would FULLY support. Otherwise keep them locked up or give them a lethal injection like you would a rabid animal.

It's foolish to think these freaks can live amoung us safely. Could anyone reading this have their sexual preferences changed by a "program", I think not. Why expect any different from them.

Westley Allen Dodd a notorious child molestor/murderer told us it was impossible to change. He said if the State of Washington ever released him, he'd do it again and again... He was executed in record time for any state in the union. Justice served.

McDermott. I like that one. Since he's a psychiatrist he can even continue with their treatment program on a 24/7 basis.
