The UN is certainly not a democracy, and neither is the US, although the liberals would like us to be, call us that, and are pushing in that direction. Thatis why they want to do away with the electoral college--one man, one vote. In that case, only the wishes of CA and NY would prevail and the rest of the country would de facto never help in the election of a preident.
Same way in the UN--one vote per nation, where Sierra Leone, Ghana, (tiny countries)and totalitarian countries
like China, for ex. can tell sovereign nations what to do. That is how you get lop sided treaties like Kyoto that want the US to cut back on pollution but give China and third world nations a pass. Unfortunately, we have many American elites who apologize for our being who we are and want to say "mea culpa" to any suggestion of these nations who basically hate us while envying our progress.
I don't think the rest of the world thinks we are as arrogant as they think we are weak and stupid because of people like Al Gore and Bill Clinton who want to give in and accomodate before they even take a stand in our interests. As I recall, Gore went to Kyoto saying they would have to change the treaty and then caved.
What a mess!

It seems they do, now. They didn't/shouldn't in a republic.

the UN has only one real interest, to be the world governemtn.
To do this, the UN needs taxing authority and one world currency. Just as the Euro has trapped the eu, the UN seeks to somehow "contain" the USA and the inconvenient notions of individual liberty and individual property rights.

My fear is that it will be Americans wearing those blue helmets, or black ones, as they do "cordon and search" operations and highway checkpoints.

"By any measure the United States is the most armed country in the world," the report said. "With roughly 83 to 96 guns per 100 people, the United States is approaching a statistical level of one gun per person." Less than one gun per person? I guess Americans will all have try harder and go out buy more guns. :)

In that case, only the wishes of CA and NY would prevail and the rest of the country would de facto never help in the election of a preident. And Texas! Texas is number 2 in population. CA is number 1 with 35,116,000, TX is 2 with 21,780,000, and NY is 3 with 19,158,000. Texas is so solidly Republican that it's Chicken Democrats have to resort to illegal quorum busting to prevent legislation from being passed, and they barely have enough members to do that.
