Yeah, back in the "disco sucks" days, a friend of mine (one of the coolest guys in school) used to play Barry's Greatest Hits on the 8-track player in his father's station wagon. He got us rock-n-rollers to admit that Barry was the man. Good times....

Thanks. I was wanting to listen to that one. I'm going to have to dig out his gold album this weekend and play it.

Just looking at those top five of '74....what a great time. Most of us baby boomers have lived life that others can't imagine. We went from Leave it to Beaver to the sixties. From Frank and Dean on the radio to the Beatles and Led Zepplin. From rotary phones and black and white TV to cell phones with a color screen and Free Republic! Thanks for the memories!

For many, the Walrus of Love was considered "My First, My Last, My Everything." For many, he created the soundtrack of the night. And for modern golf fans, his "Love's Theme" is best known as ABC Sports' PGA theme.

A voice as smooth as velvet, and sultry as a smoky fire. I'm really sorry to hear about this one.

And as I told my wife today, there's three (Hepburn, Hackett & White). Rest well, Barry. You've earned it.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

"I don't recall ever seeing so many obits in such a short time."

Me neither, I think it's an age thing.

Scary.

Barry will be missed, but his music will live forever!

>>High blood pressure = kidney failure. RIP, Barry. <<

The tragedy of this is that it is generally preventable. Diet and excersize can keep it at least to managable levels. And drugs like prinivil can keep it down all the time.

Except for rare cases (admittedly, I don't know if this was one of those) this doesn't have to lead to such an early death.

We have been deprived of a great talent and a great personality. RIP

I just bought his Love Unlimited Orchestra album from the mid 70's

Is that the one with My Sweet Summer Suite? No one touches Barry White for writing musical orgasms, but that one's all the more amazing for not having any words.
