BENNINGTON -- A Depot Street woman pleaded not guilty Monday to sexually assaulting another woman in a car parked at a Main Street convenience store, according to court records.
The charge against Donna L. Hoyt, 53, of Bennington, is a felony carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail.
A woman went to the Bennington Police Department on June 19 and claimed Hoyt had assaulted her on May 26, according to a police affidavit.
She told police that she had waited so long to report the incident because she was afraid of Hoyt, adding that she has gotten a restraining order against her, the affidavit states.
Hoyt has a prior criminal record including convictions for arson, domestic assault, forgery and grand larceny.
In a written statement, the woman said she had previously dated Hoyt, but the relationship had ended earlier in the month of May, police said.
She wrote that around 5:30 p.m. on the day of the assault Hoyt had given her a ride to Martin's Mobil Station on east Main Street, but when she asked Hoyt to take her home Hoyt began to fondle her intimately, although she told her repeatedly to stop, according to the affidavit.
Hoyt was released after her arraignment on conditions that include not associating with the alleged victim, according to court records.

With a record like that, why was she out on the street in the first place?
So when a lesbian assaults another lesbian, is that a hate crime?

After reading her rap sheet, (convictions for arson, domestic assault, forgery and grand larceny), I'd say sexual that Vermont takes sexual assault seriously, the other crimes were mere trifles!
