Matera, the crucifixion.
The cross is on the edge of the canyon. On the background, a part of the Sassi.
In an interview on the New York Daily News, Gibson said about the town of Matera: "Certain sections of the city are 2,000 years old, and the architecture, the blocks of stone, the surrounding areas and rocky terrain added a vista and backdrop that we [used] to create the backdrops for our lavish sets of Jerusalem. We relied heavily on the look that was there. In fact, the first time I saw it, I just went crazy, because it was so perfect."

"There were agnostics and Muslims on set converting to Christianity."
How about someone put the movie on TV in Iraq since they don't have theaters.. :)

"Going the normal route and being successful with this film might entice the normal Hollywierd types to try making films with pro Christian themes."
Or it may make them put out a bunch of scientology films that no one wants to see.

<< good for him.
i like mel gibson. he's always struck me as being a nice guy and a class act. wonder how the hollyweird people are going to react to this one. i hope that they don't bust his chops. >>
The Laundrywoodies have all loathed and despised Mr Gibson since he had Braveheart's King Patrick McGoohan's son played as a simpering poofter.
Poofters hate being portrayed as poofters.

"I just wish it would show the Resurrection as well." I see your point (for the resurrection is definitely essential).
But if you want to grab people deep down and show how much God loves them, then the crucifixion beats the resurrection hands down.
To die like that, with the guilt of the world laid on your shoulders, is the better measure of God's love.
The resurrection, by comparison, was a much easier gig.

"You don't want to watch a movie about the Evil Confederate Emperor Xenu's genocidal plan to fly billions of sentient beings in space ships that look like Boeing 747s to the Earth, strip them to volcanos and watch them become spirit things called Thetans? Where's your sense of adventure? /sarcasm.. "
Hey....that DOES sound like a good scifi film..

The movie "Jesus", which was made in the 1970s, is being shown somewhere, everyday around the world. Been translated into over 800 languages. Mel's film will do even better. It will be in Iraq and in every country which doesn't ban it.

DPB,
I do try to keep up on the daily Mel Gibson/The Passion posts, but sometimes (gasp!) I miss one or two. May I request joining your ping list?
Many (grateful) thanks!

Be glad to put you on a list! Got a little google secret I'll tell you...but don't tell anyone else.
Go to:
http://news.google.com/
Punch in:
"Mel Gibson"
The quotation marks are important. Don't leave them out.
Wait for the search to complete.
Then, at the top of the google toolbar click:
"web"
Then....click on "News" and drag and drop it on your toolbar
After that, you can find the lastest on Mel or anything else you choose with one click. This assumes you have google on your toolbar. If not, go to the google homepage and find out how to put it there (very easy, drag and drop).
My problem now is I have ten hot buttom items on my toolbar ready for a google news search...difficult to remember which is which.

I'm a very liberal Protestant and I agree too. Catholics and evangelicals are my friends (if they will have me), not my enemy. Their success allows me to be who I am. I wish them both success.

I am Jewish and my whole life I've had friends that were Catholics from large families with at least 5 children.
I married one :) From a large Catholic British-Swedish family..of..6! I still get all the BIL's, SIL's, nephews and neices names mixed up and confused!

Women have it easy. I know a Jewish guy who married a Catholic woman. He is 70 now and still tells everyone how difficult
it was. But he and she have some wonderful kids and grandkids. Not as many as if he didn't take walks around the block at times....
btw..after working a real job to support all those kids, he was a drummer...a very good drummer...in demand today.
