As Californians ponder the mind-boggling possibility that they could recall Gov. Gray Davis less than a year after re-electing him, they might remember the 1993 movie ``Groundhog Day.''

In that hilarious classic, a television weatherman played by Bill Murray is condemned to repeat the same day -- Feb. 2 -- again and again. Wondering whether he's insane, he brings chaos to Punxsutawney, Pa.

The idea was to give the people a safety valve to overrule entrenched interests. But the initiative and the recall have become entrenched interests themselves, with a cadre of consultants and signature-gatherers wielding immense power.

Whose to blame if both sides are doing this?

PS .. How do people holding clipboards wield so much power?

When a lot of people agree with them.

And why should that threaten those who welcome people getting involved only when it is for their causes?

First Davi$, then the rest of the demRats in 2004! This recall will not fail because people don't care, it's will fail as long as the media is allowed to spout their half truths and lies.
