You should get quite a few miles out of that Toyota. I hear the Toyota 4Runners are good quality. Used cars everywhere are dropping in price, especially away from larger cities. You can buy a 1996 Toyota 4Runner SR5 in top shape for $7250 -- $8800. That's with sunroof, am/fm/CD, running boards and timing belt changed already. Granted some have 100K miles...but with a Toyota that's not much.
