From the American Family News Site:
Powell Authorizes U.S. Money to Palestinian Authority
By Fred Jackson
May 13, 2003
(AgapePress) - A well-known conservative is condemning Secretary of State Colin Powell for giving millions of U.S. dollars to a group many associate with promoting terrorism.
Gary Bauer says while Powell was touring the Middle East this past weekend, he handed a check for $50 million of U.S. tax payer monies to the Palestinian Authority.
Bauer says it is good to help friends, but the Palestinian Authority is no friend. He says the TV and radio stations it controls spew out a steady diet of hatred against Christians and Jews, Israel and the United States.
Bauer also notes that just weeks before the Iraqi war, Arafat sent holiday greetings to Saddam Hussein who he referred to as his "brother."
Additionally, Bauer says independent studies have proven that money to the Palestinian Authority ends up in private bank accounts for thugs like Arafat, who, according to Forbes Magazine, has a personal wealth of over $300 million.

Let's see, $50,000,000 divided by $25,000 is 2,000. So we just handed the Palestinians the equivalent of 2,000 Saddam payoffs for homicide bombers. Nice.

Powell and his famous checkbook. Who says terrorism doesn't pay big?
If Powell can be snockered into $50,000,000 for developing tourism in Palestine, maybe he can fund my ice cream vending machines in hell project.

I'm broke all the dam time. I work my tail off. Yet I never murdered anyone, nor ordered anyone murdered. If I did, will they at least pay off my mortgage? This makes me sick with anger. Right on, we are becoming a terrorist nation if that money is transferred.

If a Clinton administration had done this, posters on this site would be excoriating them. But because this is done under the Bush administration, the criticism here will be light.
FR has been overwhelmed by partisan politics, and integrity has taken a nose dive.

====================================
It's been proven that aid to the PA finances terror.
Arafat controls 5 of the 7 "security" forces.
Not much question what use this will be put to.

"Powell and his famous checkbook"
Of course you know that had Powell arbitrarily decided to give this money, it would have had to been his own money.
Instead if badmouthing Powell, why don't you find out the circumstances under which it was appropriated.
To: AgThorn
Isn't this part of some agreement we signed on to several years back? 3 Billion for Israel and 50 Million to the Palestinians.
Not that I agree in giving the Palestinian Authority a damn thing, but to be fair, I think we should know the details of this before condemning Powell

A search reveals the reason (and no...I am NOT defending the decision, I believe it is wrong, I have no use for Powell):
Powell announced that the United States would give $50 million to the Palestinian Authority to create jobs and repair its infrastructure, damaged by Israeli military incursions in the past 31 months.
Newsday

This is a bit like giving money to the KKK in order to promote racial harmony. Oh, but maybe that comparison is a bit over the top - as bad as the KKK is, the Palestinian Authority has much more blood on its hands than the KKK ever did.
