Vietnam's Quick Action Contained SARS, UN Agency Says (Update2) By Joshua Fellman Geneva, April 28 (Bloomberg) -- Vietnam has contained its outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, the World Health Organization said, crediting the southeast Asian nation with a quick response and openness about the deadly disease's spread.

To sum up: Vietnam did lots of things right, and is now officially SARS free. The rest of the world is getting there, except for China.

China has closed its stock exchanges in Shanghai, a city the Chicoms continue to insist has no threat from SARS. To quote the chief representative of WHO in China, "Right now, they don't know where SARS is, so everyone is scared."

I don't think we can build a "Great Wall" all the way around China, and I don't see any sign that China can contain SARS.

What Vietnam did, was to immediatly quarantine anyone who showed any symptoms of SARS at all. For all intents and purposes, they also banned the word. If you were caught saying "SARS", you were arrested.

One way to convince others you got rid of a disease is to stop talking about it or acknowledging it publicly. I don't know if this means they did things right and actually are *rid* of it though.

"Vietnam did lots of things right, and is now officially rSARS free."

Did they find a cure, banish the cases out of the country, or just shoot them ?

This disease can be stopped even in China. It is just going to cost a lot more lives in China.

My first thought was they probably killed anyone discovered with the disease.

I doubt whether it can be stopped in China. They have delayed and denied far too long. It has probably spread all over the country, into small villages. And it may also be vectored in Chinese animals.
