Let's not go there today.

Well, you can't. It's under ash...unless it got cleaned up. Pinatubo did a job for that area. Besides, everytime I went,I would ordered the Jungle Juice then for some reason I would end up in the show.

Personally, I prefer more traditional methods of celebrating Easter - biting the heads off chocolate rabbits like the Apostles used to do...

Bwahahahahahaha-SNORT!

Oh, yeah - Chicago's keel was laid in 1943, after her predecessor decorated the bottom off Rabaul. She was rebuilt during the Cold War as a missile cruiser, but retained the below-decks CIC (my GQ station), torpedo belt, and armored decks and hatches. Kind of nice to be sitting down there with the MiGs making runs on us from North Vietnam. I was actually in the Philippines when I transferred off during her last WESTPAC.

"One Japanese and 13 Filipinos were nailed to wooden crosses [What? No Southerners?]"

Yeah, thats what southerner's do. They don't even need to take their shoes off before they drive the nails in their feet because they don't wear shoes on the way to the out house to marry their sister with green teeth. What would southerners do without those northerners sending in the national gaurd to teach them how to live?

You forgot to turn off the sarcasm...or not...

they don't wear shoes on the way to the out house to marry their sister with green teeth.

Ok, lesson number one in southern etiquette; You can't marry your sister, she is reserved for the first cousin. You can however marry your first cousin. Your sister can become your Aunt.

Lesson number two, brown teeth is a sign of fresh chew. If your teeth are green, you have bad snuff.

Lesson three. Suspect all northerners to think they know us southerners better than us and keep your guns loaded and powder dry...speaking of which, I need to knap some flints again

This mess is an example of false Christianity at its Satanic best. The whole thing is revolting and blasphemous.

The murder of Christ was revolting and blasphemous, but the notion that there is personal merit to be gained in literally repeating it is even more revolting and blasphemous--since it suggests that the work of Christ was not a redemptive fait accompli.

Real Christians will experience the spiritual anguish of what the Bible calls "repentance unto life," not the carnal anguish of pierced hands and feet or flagellation or other forms of worthless penance. Thus, I'm afraid that the junk which the Filipinos in the article have effectively substituted for repentance are demonically aimed at blocking saving faith.

In other words, I see the whole thing as a religious shell game. Sinners are losing everything.

ARRRRRRR!! Right nice looking vessel there, matey! That one actually has timbers to shiver (I'm not sure, but I don't think that's a good thing...)

And, I fear, rather nicer-looking than the incarnation I was on. She was known as the Ugliest Ship In The Navy, and deserved it. She had more sail area than the one in the picture here. Fresh out of her rebuild she had only missiles, which meant that a sampan with an ice pick could have holed her. They salvaged two 5-in 38 open mounts from, heaven help us, the old carrier USS Wasp (name engraved on the baseplate) and my first job onboard was their care and feeding. Guns. Love guns...

Along with the Cork Room, Blow Heaven, and Sweet 16 bar in Subic City, The Crossroads in San Antonio, Platos and the Big Foot Bar, Via's Place on Gordon Avenue, Heaven Bar, Whiskey River, Hogs Breath Tavern, Samuri Massage Parlor, Casablanca, and Island Girls. Oh, and the Zig Zag in Olongapo, and Oro, The Cave, El Tropican, Jolos and Copacano, as well as Paulines and Club Rio. I may have forgotten a couple, I seem to have a few dead brain cells for some reason.

I hear that San Antonio has lights around the clock now. Progress of a sort, I guess.

Mabuhay, y'all.

The Bible aptly summarises these people when it speaks of will-worship, which is not to any honour . . . but to the satisfying of the flesh.

These guys should celebrate Christianity by leaving Christian lives, not by being fatuous.

I preferred the White Rocks in Subic City, but in Olongapo I was a regular at the Cave, Jolos (Old and New), and...good grief, you were in Pauline's? I thought I was their only customer...good heavens, ice-encrusted San Miguels on a hot summer day...jazz in Perla's Beer Garden on Magsaysay...my first trip to Subic City they'd lost their brand-new electricity in a typhoon and had lit the place with kerosene lanterns. Looked like the Old West, and the bouncers had real guns...very cool...

Concur. My first experience with naval guns was also with the open mount wetgun 5-incher, though with the 25-caliber [125 inch] short barrel version with the stainless steel liner.
