The Ravenscroft book is invaluable. It opens up a whole new view of some of the inexplicable aspects of Nazism.

Another great biography is Der Fuehrer by Conrad Heiden. It was written while the war was still going on by an ex-Nazi who had turned against Hitler and is the best source for detail about the early days of the party.

Can you imagine, say, a Christian producing a Bible written on his own blood? Or a Jew writing a copy of the Torah in his own blood? Wouldn't that be blasphemy?

A Christian, maybe, a Jew never. Even the most casual reading of Leviticus, with it's numerous references to avoiding blood, would give a Jew pause.

A Christian *might* just *might* convince himself that he was honoring Christ by mirroring in his own small way His blood sacrifice.

Somehow it seems to fit with a nominal Muslim megalomaniac...

I suspect Saddam was an Ian Fleming fan.

Or Tom Clancey...

I suspect Saddam was an Ian Fleming fan.

Is it because of his world-dominating megalomania, or because he had a habit of imprisoning small children?
