that story about Area 51 moving appears to be from a 1997 Pop Mechanics story. I have the actual magazine with that article laying around in my house somewhere.

Paragraph in post #17: "...A new generation of "electrochromic panels" are probably being tested at the facility as well. A move towards "daytime" stealth capability (such as through the use of special sensors for transmission of image reflections of the background environment on the lower as well as upper bodies of the aircraft) may also be in the works at Area 51. I would not be surprised at all if they were working on even more exotic weapons programs, such as limited tri-dimensional holographic image maximization that could be integrated with the "electrochromic panels" and used not merely to reflect background environment on the aircraft to bring about "transparency effect," but to bring about some distorted image size of the aircraft as well."
Sounds like a cloaking device to me. That sure would help against North Korea. Now all we need are phasers and photon torpedoes LOL!

looks strangely like the National Aerospace Plane concept from the mid-80's.
I dunno...but it seems really idiotic that we're still sitting around talking about low-cost access to space 15 years after the Paine Commission issued it's report.

This is a very old article, as the article says missions will begin very soon, "perhaps as early as 1999."

Yeah, it’s cool if it were true. I drove by AREA 51 when it was almost dark in July of 2011 and there were 100’s of lights on in the buildings. If it’s closed why are we paying the light bill to keep the lights on.
