Look at my remarks to trebb -- I agree with you. I think Powell truly believed the UN honestly just had differences of opinions with the US, and that enough evidence of Saddam's violations would convince the UN. Powell now knows the UN are a bunch of anti-US b*****ds who had decided from day one what to do based on self-interest, and couldn't care less about what the evidence was.

Rear is exposed? The Iraqis better start thinking about THEIR rear, it is getting awfully cramped. Iraq is not the old Soviet Union, there is no endless Asian rear area to keep supplying an endless guerrilla war. They have to protect Baghdad, because Saddam has nowhere else to run, and after it falls, the guerrillas will wither on the vine.

She should try watching FNC, and would notice the Muslim-style rations being handed out.

I agree: Powell will likely come out of this stronger and less moderate, which is a "good thing." :)

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Colin Powell says he is "very much in sync" with President Bush and will stay in his job.
Powell, whose reputation as a moderate distinguishes him from more conservative senior Bush administration officials, says the polls support his performance as secretary of state.
"The American people seem to be quite satisfied with the job I am doing as secretary of state," Powell said in an interview with National Public Radio.
Powell also rejected any suggestion that the diplomatic approach he championed at the United Nations was a failure.
In fact, he said, unanimous approval last November of a Security Council resolution that the administration has used as its legal basis for war with Iraq was a "diplomatic triumph."
The resolution authorized a resumption of U.N. weapons inspections and warned Iraq of "serious consequences" if it continued to defy U.N. resolutions demanding it disarm.
A second resolution backed by the United States, Britain and Spain, designed to bolster the first one, had to be withdrawn under threat of a French veto.
Even before the Iraq war, Powell seemed at odds with others in the administration on U.S. policy toward North Korea (news - web sites), the jettisoning of a 1972 treaty with the Soviet Union that barred national defenses against missiles, the size of the U.S. peacekeeping force in Afghanistan (news - web sites) and on the use of U.S. funds for world programs designed to promote birth control.
But Powell told NPR: "Personally, I am very much in sync with the president and he values my services."
A New York Times columnist, Bill Keller, wrote Saturday that Powell "seems to have been defeated" on the way U.S. power is used and said he should resign when the war is over.
"The most important reason the secretary of state should go is that the president has chosen a course that repudiates much of what Mr. Powell has stood for notably his deep suspicion of arrogant idealism," Keller wrote.
At a news conference Tuesday, Powell rejected a reporter's suggestion that the State Department was proposing a "road map" for a settlement between Israel and the Palestinians on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.
Bush had said "we welcome contributions," which indicated that Israel and the Palestinians would have an opportunity suggest changes in the plan that calls for setting up a Palestinian state by the end of 2005.
Arab governments grumbled there had been too long a delay already. And the State Department sought to discourage any suggestion of revisions.
"Our line is the same as the president's," Powell told a reporter who suggested that Bush and the State Department had taken different stances.
When a Palestinian prime minister is confirmed "the road map will be released," Powell said, and "the two parties will have to start talking to one another from that road map."
Powell says he will be around for a while - note the media left's attempt to make him say what he did not.

"Bones, did you see Lesley Stahl's interview with General Powell? What do you think will happen to her after Powell tore her a new one?"
"She's dead, Jim."

Why on earth would Powell lower himself too go on a TV show with Lesley Stahl. I am sure she is a great military expert. Powell must have had to contain himself from getting up and walking out. No matter who it is,any member of the Bush team should not be interviewed by these idiots in the media. The media will try and make the guest look like an idiot.

There was a report out last year, IIRC, that said that 90% of the media is admittedly liberal. 90%. Admit to holding liberal views. But of course, denying any bias therein. Dan Rather really thinks he is impartial. But I digress.
Put simply, armed conflict failure = good because Bush's success = bad.

I am absolutely dumbfounded that a nitwit reporter would dare to question a man who is not only Secretary of State but a real live general who actually KNOWS about military strategy. Just when you think they can't get any worse - they do!
Go Colin Powell! He knows how to decimate these folks, and he's sure not pulling his punches anymore.

Irony: Leslie Stahl complains about "exposed rears", yet she walks around without a burqqa.

I heard some of this on rush today. Any doubts I ever had about Powell just evaporated. He cleaned her clock. You can't get the full picture from the transcript. You need to hear his tone of voice. He is one smooth dude.
