Capitol Hill Blue, the oldest daily news site on the Internet, has been sold to a group of working Washington journalists.
Doug Thompson Media, owner and operator of the web site since its debut on the Web on October 1, 1994, announced today that it has agreed to sell the site to Capitol Hill Journalism Partnership.
"Capitol Hill Blue is a pioneer in web-based journalism," said partnership spokesman William J. Lowrey. "We intend to honor that tradition and improve upon it."
The partnership is composed of working, Washington-based journalists who work for print, broadcast and web-based media outlets.
"We intend to use Blue as a test bed for new techniques and concepts for web journalism," Lowrey said.
Capitol Hill Blue first appeared on the web on October 1, 1994, as a one-page weekly newsletter published by veteran journalist Doug Thompson. He expanded publication to daily on January 1, 1995, and the site gained fame during the Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky scandals of the Clinton administration.
Thompson left the publication earlier this month to pursue new opportunities.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The new owners will take control of the web site on April 1, 2003.

IIRC, didn't they say something like that when The American Spectator was sold?
You're just crabby because Peter Arnett got sacked.
Maybe we should have the Daily Benedict Arnett Award to the phoney conservative who posts the most negative articles from Reuters, AFP, Pravda, BBC, the NY and LA Slimes and of course from ABCNNBCBS.
It is obvious that some of these losers in political life have sided with Soddomite like Arnett has.

This garbage from Capital Blue is at the head of the pack today!
Bully for you.
The trouble is, you're unqualified to determine who deserves such an award.
While we may not always agree with him, Doug Thompson has long earned the respect of many on this forum.
I suggest you keep your adolescent smears to yourself.
I could care less if a hardcore bushbot gets worn out.
My tagline serves as a constant reminder that Dubya does NOT have a conservative mandate.
There were many who literally held their nose to vote for him over Algore simply as the lesser of two evils. Those include the many GOP primary supporters of Forbes, Keyes, Quayle, Bauer, Smith, Hatch and even (barf) McCain. Just because Dubya eventually squeeked out a win, don't let it get into your pompous head that you're qualified to be some kind of self-anointed Lord Protector of conservative thought. You're NOT.
Well that's YOUR problem, not mine.
This article is about CHB and Doug Thompson, not GWB and PJB.
Keep your superficial little stinkbot smears to yourself.
Doug Thompson has earned more respect for his opinion than that.
LOL! I never threatened you, Gramps...
But if my strongly worded defense of Doug Thomspon's reputation scares you, maybe you should back-off from your keyboard for a little while, and go change your Depends.
"Capitol Hill Blue is a pioneer in web-based journalism," said partnership spokesman William J. Lowrey. "We intend to honor that tradition and improve upon it."
So, does William J. Lowrey exist? Does Capitol Hill Journalism Partnership exist?
There doesn't seem to be anything on them in a quick search except this thread here. MAybe annother search engine?
Credibilty ... thy name sure as shooting is NOT Doug Thompson !
I am going to preface this by warning that I have no way of ascertaining if this William J. Lowery is that William J. Lowery. But if it is... lol
At about 1:30 a.m. on November 23, 1963, the Dallas Police searched the home of Joe R. Molina, an employee of the Texas School Book Depository. Later that day, Molina was questioned at police headquarters over a period of 6 or 7 hours. (Warren Commission Report, pp 237-238) Molina told the FBI that he had been asked if he was acquainted with a John Stanford. (CE 2036, 24 H 447) Dallas Police Chief Jesse E. Curry later told the FBI that the police had been suspicious of Molina because he had been involved in a veterans group, the American G. I. Forum. Intelligence reports indicated that several members of that group were allegedly Communists. In particular, Molina had been involved with a William J. Lowery. (CE 3132, 26 H 810-811) The Warren Commission found no basis for suspecting Molina...One of those testifying was William J. Lowery, who revealed that he had been acting as an FBI informant within the Communist Party since 1945. (Dallas Morning News, September 26, 1963, s. 1, p. 1; San Antonio Express, September 24, 1963, p. 1- A) Lowery's testimony that he had infiltrated the American G. I. Forum and other reputable groups created some controversy. An FBI spokesman denied that the FBI had ordered the infiltrations and said Lowery had been following the orders of the Communist Party in joining those groups. (San Antonio Express, September 25, 1963, p. 10-D; September 27, 1963, p. 5-B)...

I am drinking coffee. Why would I "but' the bottle down? :-)
The way the CHB writers are going anyone can BE William McKinley,Doug Thompson,- for all we know even SOBER, :-) they are Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble, or Beavis and Butthead, Terry McCauliffe, James Carville,Paul Begala, The Queen of England.
How did I come to be involved in this fiasco? I was reading a thread, and something set my proverbial spider-sense tingling. So I posted a challenge to the person who put the thread up and was taking it at face value. The discussion went from there. Probably, had not so many people been on the thread seemingly pushing Thompson's story, I never would have pulled the string. But I did, and found nothing to make me think there is a Terrance Wilkinson, I posted a thread about it and made a blog entry about it, and everything unfolded from there. If you follow up from that post on my blog, you can get a pretty good feel for how things flowed.
So instead of insinuating I am drinking (drunk) because I question who is who and what, in this CHB fiasco, post your reasoning/facts for the above statement instead of thanking gawwd you are going to go get your nails done.
Doug Thompson Media, owner and operator of the web site since its debut on the Web on October 1, 1994, announced today that it has agreed to sell the site to Capitol Hill Journalism Partnership.

I think it would be far more "educational" if you perhaps could elucidate on the above selling of CHB statements. WHO OWNS Capitol Hill Blue at the present time? Who was the deceptive party in this fiasco?
And what exactly does this mean?
"We intend to use Blue as a test bed for new techniques and concepts for web journalism," Lowrey said.
Thank-you, for your time in response.I will go read the links you posted to possibly start to answer my questions figuring out this fiasco.
Is it my choice of screen name? I'll defend McKinley any day of the week and twice on Tuesdays.
Is it something in my opinions expressed on Free Republic? If so, challenge me on them, here or on those threads.
Is it the type of Free Republic thread I prefer?
Is it something from my blog?
Bueller? Bueller?
I think it would be far more "educational" if you perhaps could elucidate on the above selling of CHB statements. WHO OWNS Capitol Hill Blue at the present time? Who was the deceptive party in this fiasco?...Brings to mind the U2 lyrics, If I could, you know I would If I could, I would. I am confused why you think I would know this, any more than you would. I am not associated with CHB, and had never even visited that website until I started getting suspicious about the article which I saw posted here. And what exactly does this mean?
"We intend to use Blue as a test bed for new techniques and concepts for web journalism," Lowrey said.
Who owns CHB? I have no clue, other than a recent statement where Doug Thompson said he is still the editor (posted to the Madman thread), and his statements on these threads that make it sound like he is still running it, and the DNS records for the domain name which still list him as the owner. My best guess is that Doug Thompson owns it.
What does that imply about the "Sold" story? Either the sale fell through, or it did not and Doug still gets to run the place. I have no idea which.
As for the comment by 'Lowery' about 'new techniques', I have no idea. I cannot read minds, especially of people I have never met, know nothing about, and am not even sure exist.
Since I have answered your questions to the best of my ability, how about returning the favor. Why on earth do you seem to be under the impression that I am associated in any way, shape, or form with Capitol Hill Blue?
Everyone's guess is as good as mine.
No prob- I was wondering where you were coming from, and where you were going to.
