I think it's a concern.

I mean, come on.. We're supposed to kill or be killed with those things. They must work properly for us to do so.

You are 100% CORRECT.

Thanks for reality!

(When does the investigation begin on this kind of failure?)

Why do we have a 33% failure rate on our hand grenades and shouldn't this be a series, hugh concern for our military?

The black thing I wish the press would drop. The Muslim thing is disturbing to me.

It's very funny how political correctness has levels of importance. He's a member of two politically correct groups but obviously "muslim" has a higher ranking, so the press ---which would normally downplay him being black has to emphasize it in this case to downplay him being muslim.

Being black has absolutely nothing to do with this horrendous crime he has committed ---it's very unlikely a black Catholic, or a black Lutheran would have done this.

There are "muslims who happen to be Black" (wherein your assertion would be correct) and there are "Black Muslims" (a Black-supremacist cult with some connection to Islamic ideas, one example of which is Farrakhan's Nation of Islam, another is "5 persent Nation of Islam" (the group the Beltway Sniper belonged to)

I think a black Wahhabi convert would be likely to do something like this guy did. I don't know about black Shiite converts ---maybe. Whether he is NOI or Wahhabi or Shiite, I think all of those would be more likely to do this act than a black Lutheran convert. I wouldn't trust a white Wahhabi convert any more than I'd trust a black one.

I don't see how Farrahkan can be blamed for this guy's act unless he shouted "kill the white devil" when he threw the grenade, I think it's significant that he waited until he was stationed in Iraq and decided to join in killing Americans.

I looked at the UCMJ. He can be tried for murder, which carries the death penalty.

Treason, I should think, would be out because he did not ***directly*** aid the enemy. (Constitutionally, treason is defined as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. I found nothing different on the UCMJ.)

But there are a slew of lesser charges too -- such as assaulting or willfully disobeying superior command. (that too, during time of war, can carry the death penalty.)

Exactly so.

Treason is extremly difficult to prove. Murder is much simpler.

And the Army is playing it smart. Their case will not even MENTION that he is Muslim. When it goes to appellate review, the defense will have one HELL of a time convincing anyone that the case was motivated by anti-Muslim prejudice.
