Pro-War and Anti-War Rallies Continue
VOA News
22 Mar 2003, 22:10 UTC

Supporters and opponents of the U.S.-led war in Iraq have marched through streets across the United States, continuing a third day of demonstrations.

In New York City, tens of thousands of anti-war protesters marched down Broadway Saturday. No arrests have been reported.

Protests continued in other U.S. cities, including as San Francisco, Atlanta, and Washington, DC, where more than 100 peace activists gathered in a park across from the White House. Protesters carried pink and orange signs that read "No blood for oil."

In Chicago, a line of policemen separated a group of anti-war protesters from a crowd of pro-war supportersto prevent a clash. Those who support the war waved flags of red, white and blue and chanted "USA."

Other U.S. citizens who support the Bush administration and the war made their voices heard in the states of Michigan and Tennessee.

Large crowds turned out in in London, Helsinki and other European capitals to protest U.S. policy toward Iraq.

Tens of thousands of Muslims turned out for anti-war rallies across Asia and the Middle East.

U.S. embassies and diplomatic offices remained closed in many Arab countries as a security precaution.

Some information for this report provided by AP and AFP.
