We have some catching up to do for those of you following my left wing college ping list. We have been studying law in the class and he has only made insane comments peppered over the rest of the lecture.
I kept track of the comments, and will list the ones from the last 2 class periods here.
First he came out and said that he talked to another college professor who is a conservative. He told this professor that he had found scientific research that people are "dumber" than they actually think they are.
According to this report people who think they are smart are very dumb, and people who think they are dumb are very smart.
He had no evidence or sources...just that it was some study think tank group.
According to him most people need protection from themselves because as he puts it "nobody has a free will"
For this example he talked about when companies used to send out mass mailings of credit cards. He said that is now illegal because people couldn't control themselves and were going out and buying everything on the credit cards.
He said something about Mcdonalds advertising hamburgers, and that we can't stop eating Mcdonalds because they have control over us.
At one point in today's lecture he complained about Iran Contra. He said.....
"Reagan illegally sold arms to Iran. Then he diverted the funds to our campaign in Nicaragua. But because American people are so stupid and simple minded, they didn't get angry with him. Because they didn't know what the hell was going on!"
He said that the reason Clinton was impeached was because sex is easy to figure out.
He then went on a tirade about Newt Gingrich cheating on his wife the day Clinton was impeached. He said that he believes 99% of Republican Congressmen cheat on their wives.
He said that he has come to the conclusion that Republicans were having trouble finding someone to be Speaker of the House when Gingrich left. Murmured something about a Republican congressman from Louisiana who cheated on his wife.
He then said he thinks the Republicans picked Dennis Hastert as Speaker of the House because he is gay, and therefore couldn't be cheating on his wife.
He went on a tirade yesterday about "Rich White Kids with Guns"
Finally I stopped him and asked him why they have such a high crime rate in England. He said that is Bull Crap because Englands crime is apparently according to him lower than ours.
He said the worst places where school shootings occur are white neighborhoods with 37 churches and no beer joints. Because everybody is "oppressed" where there are 37 churches and no beer joints.
He claims that poor people don't have enough money to buy drugs. He said that money corrupts, and that money is bad. According to him rich people are responsible for all problems in society.
He said he is not really sure why we are going to war, but that conservatives like war, and liberals don't.
He tried to lay a guilt trip on the class by saying that while innocent people were being blown up in Iraq, we were going to be worrying about what movie we were going to see that night.
He then asked the class. Do you really think only the bad guys are going to get blown up? Or will it be mostly innocent people?
To conclude the lesson he said that the point of the class was not to teach us Business Law, but how to cut corners around Business Law, and to work smart instead of working hard.

I agree. He said that the only place working hard will get you is Quick-Trip.

Is there a syllabus for this course?

Yes there is a syllabus. Its mainly got the Business Law stuff on it. Not the other crap he peppers over the lecture.
To: OneLoyalAmerican
Actually on the back of the syllabus there is what he calls "Academic Welfare"
All you have to do is check a box that says you are a hypocrital conservative, and he will give you ten free points. I refused to do it.

Its not so bad listening to him because i can see straight through him. I worry about those who might be easily influenced by his scam. Although he tries to be a very complicated person, and people who aren't interested in this kind of thing probably haven't and don't want to think much about it.
To: ConservativeMan55
What's the URL to your professor's website?
To: ConservativeMan55
Just by reading the statements, it would be almost impossible to guess what this person is supposed to teach. That's usually not a good sign, kind of like your dentist reaching for a trombone during a root canal. I really can't imagine this guy being terribly useful, except to laugh at.
I see him better suited as the guy you see along the side of the freeway, wearing hightops and a dirty raincoat, scowling at passers-by. And in a world where academia didn't coddle, then tenure, its carnival freaks, that's exactly where he'd be.
PS Please add me to the ping list. This stuff is priceless.
To: ConservativeMan55
Be of good cheer...often these guys go so far over the top that most in the class discount what they have to say about politics. I saw one student one time raise his hand after a tirade like the ones you mention. When the prof asked what his question was, the student asked if what the prof was saying was fact or opinion. Took the prof off guard. The student kept it up all semester. Worked pretty well to disarm the prof. Hang in there...we are actually winning the war of worldviews!
To: ConservativeMan55; jigsaw
how to cut corners around Business Law, and to work smart instead of working hardObviously not a business ETHICS class. Considering his apparent ethical position, it's no wonder that he considered BJ's impeachment to be about sex (no big deal).
But then it apparently isn't a business law class because he doesnt understand the significance of a CEO lying under oath .... or does he (see first sentence above, re. ethics)
BTW, how do you keep from blowing your brains out (or at least the frontal lobe - so you can bear to listen to such drivel)? Or, have you decided that a grade is not as important as fighting back against insipid comments?

Whatever you do, don't carry any Ayn Rand books into class...they'll have you up on murder charges if he gets a wiff of objectivism. Black's Law Dictionary might be considered a WMD....

My advice: get your grade, and move on, and then get your degree, and go start making your millions. Otherwise, you'll pay double in time and money, and possibly never graduate.
Success is the sweetest revenge.

UK has a crime rate which is increasing with more gun laws. That is what is hard to explain. Direct cross-oceanic comparisons are not as valid because there is a violence level difference which affects not only gun related violence but other violence as well, so the gun stuff tends to factor out, if I recall correctly. (Prof. Joyce Malcolm has done studies.)

"people need protection from themselves because as he puts it "nobody has a free will"
If I ever found out this was what they were teaching my child, I would be in the school's face - yelling my head off!!!
Somebody should record this idiot and then have some conservative show play it on the air. It sure would stir the pot.

Dennis Hastert is gay?
To: CyberAnt
I agree with you CyberAnt. This is what many liberals are thinking, but they haven't yet smoked enough pot to actually think people will fall for it, so they pass it off as something other than socialism. This guy just blatantly says it.
To: ConservativeMan55
All you have to do is check a box that says you are a hypocrital conservative, and he will give you ten free points. I refused to do it. Be creative. "Edit" silly questions. Draw one line through undesirable words; then give yourself "extra" proofreading points.
Might you scan and post the syllabus?

I might try scanning or typing pieces of it. Its a very long document though. 30-40 pages worth.

They must pay him quite a bit for him to afford all the drugs he must be on. Talk about the ravings of a paranoid.
Just lift your fist up in the air and holler "Damn the man!"
I don't know how you do it. I never could keep my mouth shut while in college. Only had to drop a couple of classes and had a couple of profs who probably wished I had dropped theirs as I could be rather merciless.
To: conservativefromGa
He said he "bets" that Dennis Hastert is gay.
To: zx2dragon
What he and other liberals are calling for is a huge cetralized form of government. Much like Saddam has over there in Iraq.
To: ConservativeMan55
I am very grateful to learn the kinds of things with which college-aged young people have to deal.
It is frightening to think that anyone with such a dearth of character can even be near enough to breathe on 17-20 year olds.

Oh Perfect!!! TAPE HIM!!!!! Send it to Rush.... he would jump right on it!! All that garbage the Professor is spewing and then for him to say stuff about not working hard, just manipulate the rules...
What makes this so priceless is that Republicans have been taking such a beating over "unethical business", i.e. Enron... Bush would love to expose what this Business Law professor is actually teaching his students and that it is coming from as left-wing as you can get :)
Hannity might be interested, too, or OReilly :)

keep arguing...and when the course is over, send a polite, anonymous letter to the dean informing him/her that your professor has turned the class into a political science class with hours of lecture on his personal political philosophy. Inform them that a large fraction of the class time is spent discussing things other than the law...and that you are very disappointed in the service your $$$$ has bought. It might also help if you claim you are referring all of your non college buddies to other schools because of it. Just a thought!;)

Please get in touch with Walter Williams at George Mason University. He's at wwilliam@gmu.edu.
He has a regular thing in his writings and on this radio program (when subbing for El Rushbo) in which he tries to enforce truth-in-educational-labeling, and also the offering of defective educational products (viz: bullsh1t professors like yours).
Walter may be interested in hearing from you.

Please add me to your ping list.
Also, I suggest you furtively tape this moron's lectures (diatribes?) and publish them at the end of the semester, in both audio and written forms. There are countless conservative organizations that would do it. Send them to Sean Hannity and have him feature them on a show. Then, have a conservative legal organization threaten to sue your Law School unless the moron is disciplined or fired.
Once the light of day is shone on this d-ckhead, he will crawl back into the cowardly hole he came from, without the protection of academic freedom or tenure.

That's an inconsistent position to take, for if people truly can't control themselves, then the people who comprise and make corporate decisions would likewise need to be protected from themselves, since they can't help sending out all of those credit card applications to keep making more money.
To be consistent he'd have to argue that it should be illegal for people to abuse their credit cards in order to protect the people inside credit card companies from themselves, since no one has a "free will."
Sigh. He won't even comprehend your point, however.
He may comprehend humor, though. I mean, this guy is named Urich, yet he is ranting against the wealthy elite. Talk about irony. That's like a guy named Robbers-son ranting against the police!

Ask him if he considers himself smart or dumb? If he says "smart" then tell him by his own definition that he is really dumb and if he says "dumb" the tell him that you agree.

He said that the reason Clinton was impeached was because sex is easy to figure out. I actually agree with this statement. There were 100 far better reasons to impeach Clinton, but getting a Lewinsky in the Oval Office was something that 100% of the American people could understand.
