Linux shares the same number of syllables AND the same starting letter AND the same number of letters as "Lenin", it's free software, but the communist doctrine is cunningly encoded into the GPL, and it may be alluring but there's something devious behind that little cute penguin smile.. YES it means a lifetime of hanging out with pesky geeks.. instead of the "cooler" set from HR or marketing who only ever got C's in school but they still dress cool and have figured out something socially...Don't forget, it fluoridates our water and contaiminates our precious bodily fluids.

Of course then they'd have to worry about preemptive strikes.

That's the wrong analogy. Try this one:
You have a 1996 Ford. Do you expect them to issue security/safety recalls? Do you expect them to perform that work at no extra cost? Do you expect them to provide parts and service for that truck (to keep it safe and running)--even though they have come out with a new version?

Red hat is a great tool. If you ever need to format your drive and XP took over your machine, you can use the format wizard on the Red Hat disk to get around XP's control and reformat your drive. Since I have upgraded to XP I have been unable to F Disk or use Partition Magic. Linux comes to the rescue in a clinch.

Well, Microsoft does that without a Federal mandate, for free, until they develop a newer version, and then for a little while after that. After some time they will have to encourage you to buy the new version because they can't help you any more on a four-year old product. Should MS still be trying to perfect Windows 3.1?
Keep your software up to date is all! When a better one comes out, buy it if you want the better stuff. It really isn't that hard.

Isn't OS X just for Macs? Can it be used on a PC?
Yup and not right now.
Conceivably, you could run Aqua, the user interface, on any BSD machine, but that's theory, not practice.
It would make it interesting, though, wouldn't it?

ChilePepper speaks wise words here, and RedHat is indeed a communist allusion, riding all that retro-kitzch soviet stuff, and scaring the crap out of proprietary vendors with that funny hat.
They've co-opted the "cool", swindling hundreds of thousands of undergrads to post half-a**ed projects to www.freshmeat.net, hardly any of which reach beta, because the dev's have to give their calculus midterms priority.
By exploiting our youth, RedHat has been directing a vast conspiracy, from, of all places, North Carolina, yet at the same time riding (and crashing on) the huge stock bubble like everyone else. World domination indeed!
But the conspiracy lies deeper still - let's peel away the next layer of this onion together, shall we?
It's IBM that's behind it all - they're the ones investing $Billions into Linux.. Why? To kick Microsoft's butt! They'll keep the enterprise middleware proprietary, but drive the cost of consumer software to $0, and take Microsoft down. Maybe.

Absolutely none of that is true, comrade. I have REDHat at home and except for the fact that I now favor violent overthrow of the government in favor of a dictatorship of the proletariat and state ownership of the means of production, I'm just the same as before. Power to the People, comrade. Right on!
This entire GUI thing is only a passing fad. If you're not running CP/M, you're running pure communism...

The nonsense about "licensed for use" and "customer installation disclaimers" must give way to major corporations pooling their legal resources to SUCK the profits away from Gates and crew.
Your true agenda. Thanks for playing.

Since Microsoft is a software MARKETING company instead of a software DEVELOPMENT company, it is easy to see that they interpreted the entire security "thing" as
... and you're a hot air machine masquerading as someone with technical knowledge.

How are your MSFT stock options doing these days?
MSFT 12:35p 31 Jan 2003: $47.93

Isn't OS X just for Macs? Can it be used on a PC? Yes, it can run on a PC!
Go to Emulators.com to see their products for emulating a Mac on a PC.
Once a PC behaves like a Mac, it will run OS X 10.2.

I'd love to have MSFT stock options. And so would you; otherwise, you wouldn't bring up the subject so much. Sour grapes. Pathetic.

But isn't microsoft the one who puts spyware on your computer, without the customer knowledge and certainly without his consent. And thats the way your hardcore commie works isn't it Mandrake. I can no longer allow Microsoft infiltration, Microsoft subversion, Microsoft indoctrination, and the International Microsoft conspiracy.. to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
