Really!? I'm wondering what part of "shall not be infringed" the Park Service does not understand.Hey, I'm not agreeing with them, just citing their regulations. And if the border groups wander onto Park Service land and some ranger has a bone to pick, they're gonna have problems.

Sorry, but its not just the Park Service. What business do the feds have in regulating (read: infringing) possession of weapons at all? The correct answer is none, but that hasn't stopped hundreds of gun control laws. Citizens have gone to jail for breaking these laws, it goes without saying. The courts won't help. The ONLY thing that will work is to repeal all of these laws. Easy to say, not easy to do.

We'd better warn all the hunters not to carry gunsThe Park Service generally does not allow hunting - they probably should, you should see the deer population explosion in Valley Forge Historic Park.

Why don't we ask them about this
new policy. Heck, I and my kids had two-way radios out there when we were in the park last week. We had other items that may have been confiscated under this new policy.

Thanks. I meant to add a most to the "in the trunk" comment.
If I recall, the perpetrator of the restaurant (can't remember which chain) murders in Texas some years ago had been arrested at the Grand Canyon, drunk in his trunk with a loaded pistol in his glove compartment. Got off with a ticket for $25 or $50. Bet these guys don't get off that easy. They're not only stupid laws, they're enforced selectively.

I and many others have crossed that park travelling from one part of the national forest to the other and never had our guns seized.

I wonder what reg was broken that led to the arrest and search of these hikers.
I recall a story about a punk school kid sneaking a firearm into school in his backpack. The kid was suspended and shouldn't have been there, the security guard knew this. He was also entering through an "irregular" entrance.
Lawyers got all charges dropped because the search of the backpack was done illegally without probable cause.
Only real criminals have rights. Good Citizens are the ones that get harrassed.

Everyone that works for the government in any way what-so-ever has been given instructions to "turn in their neighbor" for the slightest suspicion of anything... Now, someone is gonna ask me to prove that...sorry, I can't as it was done... "off the record" in the name of "Homeland Security"...
You realize, I suppose, that anyone could say ANYTHING and then make your statement, don't you? That hardly makes it credible. It just makes it a statment without source...and hence, NOT to be taken seriously.

I and many others have crossed that park travelling from one part of the national forest to the other and never had our guns seized.Well, it's like any other law - if a cop or ranger wants to nail you for something and you're breaking a regulation such as this, they can get you. I'm not agreeing with it, it's selective enforcement from a ranger who probably doesn't like the border groups, but if the border groups go onto National Park lands, they will be subject to this, so they should avoid doing such and IMO stay on private property where no one can legally touch them.

That would tend to funnel illegals through federal lands.

Give a bureaucrat a uniform, badge and a gun, and they seem to forget they serve the taxpayers, NOT their supervisor or some upper-level functionary.
Far too many allow themselves to be turned into and/or used as jack-booted thug types ... ala Weaver/WACO etc etc.
I mean it's not like they don't understand they can't be fired ... or even held accountable in some effective way. It looks like the bulletproof, bureaucratic-CYA game to me.

That would tend to funnel illegals through federal lands.IMO, the main point of the border groups is to draw attention to the problems on the border and the unwillingness of the feds to properly police the border. They can't stop all the illegals as it is, and it's better that they don't give the lying weasels in the pro-illegal immigration movement ANY ammo to use against them. Now the propagandists can seize on this one incident and claim the groups are breaking the law.
