What makes this funny is that Savage's real name is Michael Weiner.
I think a book titled "The Weiner Nation" would be on the NY Times best-seller list for at least ten years.

Congrats, Michael. Keep it up. and BTW:
KEEP YOUR BUTT UGLY MUGG OFF TV!But do NOT give up radio. You do a great job. I listen 6+ hours a week.
Here's a clue. I do not watch TV (hardly). I am on the computer a lot and RADIO + COMPUTER is the growing mix of entertainment and information gathering.
Be careful with TV, it will cost you your edge, because it will use up any creative reserves and energy.
Stick with what works.

A Reader's review of the book from www.amazon.com
Dr. Savage exposes liberals and their socialistic policies, December 25, 2002
|
Reviewer: parasante from Reston, VA United States |
Dr. Michael Savage, in his new book Savage Nation, exposes the liberal left and their fallacious, tried and failed, socialistic policies in a most provocative and inspiring prose. Dr. Savage provides hope, inspiration, and a refreshing barometer of sanity for those who see and understand the deviant and sinister destruction of our borders, language and culture. I think that this book, Michael's radio show, and others like them, could serve to reawaken the populous from the comatose mob mentality that has allowed our nation to be taken over by a new order. We have lost and continue to lose, at an alarming rate, our freedoms, our liberties, and our sovereignty both as a nation and as individuals. I praise Dr. Savage for his unique perspectives, his insights, and his poignant illumination of the dilemmas and the opportunities we face as a nation. I highly recommend this book for those who care to continue living in a free society and especially to liberals who want to know their enemies. Let's hope this book sells many millions of copies!

Before Savage does a TV show, he needs to force himself to watch the tapes of every episode of the Limbaugh and Drudge ex-TV shows, and understand why both of those guys went back to radio.
Plus, he needs to ditch the shades :-)
...still won't get me to watch TV, tho...

As Ann Coulter would say, this will be touted a surprise best seller. I won't hold my breath for Mr. Weiner's appearances with Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, and Barbara Wa Wa.

I bought a copy just to annoy the liberals and punch up his numbers. The writing style in the book is almost a transcription of the way Savage speaks on the air. Easy reading. Humorous. On target.

Bwahahaha.... the liberals have yet to see the other shoe drop with Ann Coulter's new book Treason due out this summer. It'll be another sure fire hot best-seller. Its amazing how well conservative books sell and liberals still insist despite all the evidence to the contrary that this is a liberal nation. Its a Savage nation and just look at 'em incoherently drool. This news makes my day. :-)

I can't believe the rank & file of FR have been bamboozled by this phony. This man was the biggest left-wing liberal on talk radio a few years ago -- particularly before 9/11.
As of recently he's taken up some conservative positions -- most likely realizing that on talkradio conservatism is the "in" thing -- and now he's being worshipped.
He's nothing more than an opportunist, if you bought his book return it. When and if liberal talk radio reigns supreme, rest assured that he'll be back on the left side of things.
To: Anti-Bolshevik
Biggest left wing liberal on a talk radio?? I didn't know liberals made it in talk radio - aren't they ones looking for the liberal Rush Limbaugh?? Besides if what you said was really true about Michael Savage you'd have been sure to hear from our friends on the other side. The rank and file on FR is capable of telling a phony from the real thing without your help, thank you. If Savage is a prominent left-wing liberal, then Hillary Clinton, the entire DNC apparatus, Ralph Neas, and the NOW NAGs have been fooled real good.
To: Anti-Bolshevik
he may, in fact, be a phony. Either way, he's providing a voice for people who enjoy hearing someone scream at liberalism run mad. Worst case scenario is, he makes money as a fraud, and his newly converted fans realize they aren't alone in their frustration. Win-win.
And liberal talk radio reigning supreme? Surely you jest...
To: ppaul
There is nothing quite as effective for upping book sales than flogging it on your radio every five minutes, 15 hours a week coast to coast.
If Rush had been as crass, he would have sold 50 million of all of his books.

A kid growing up in the Bronx named "Weiner" would have to have a thick skin, eh? You would think so. I think Mike has some important things to say and that he is the only one who has the guts to say them. But he is, IMHO, too hot-tempered to be really an effective voice for the right.
All you have to do to see how limited his people skills are is read the transcript of his TalkBack Live appearance a couple of weeks back. He tore into the show's all-purpose commentator Charles Barkley, who also has a NYT bestseller (I Could Be Wrong, But I Doubt It) apropo of nothing but disagreement with him. Mike was unaware of who Barkley was, and suggested Barkley wasn't educated enough or intelligent enough to share the split screen with him. The interview ended with Savage repeatedly shouting "Go dribble a ball!" at Barkley, who didn't respond in kind despite his reputation as a loose cannon.
Rather than proving he had a superior mind, Savage proved that he has a shorter fuse. Instead of building a solid foundation for his point of view, he acted like a hothead who thinks that the louder the voice, the better the argument.
Savage is not ready for prime time. He's going to have to change his tactics if he wants to take advantage of this shining moment. The likes of the NYT and WP and the networks can no longer ignore him, so they will do their best to destroy him. It will be interesting to see if he will aid in his own destruction.

I heard the interview.
Savage, although he did lose his temper, was 100 percent right.

Good post. Savage's people skills are horrible. He constantly misunderstands the tone of a call, then ends up going off on some caller who called to agree with Michael. He flat doesn't think quickly enough to follow a dynamic debate environment. That, combined with a natural neurotic defensiveness, routinely makes him look like an ass.
His strength (and it's a big one) is his extemporaneous monologues about whatever's eating at him at the moment. He's profound, funny, and persuasive when he's not trying to be any of the three.
To: L.N. Smithee
Good analysis. I read that transcript, and just couldn't believe it...

Okay, perhaps my evaluation was a bit hyperbolic -- but it was only to stress a point. Savage is no conservative, not now nor was he ever. That is unless you consider men like Bill O'Reilly conservative.
To: Anti-Bolshevik
seriously, are you saying he used to maintain postitions very different than the ones he does now? He says now that Borders/Language/Culture has been his main theme since day 1. That's nothing if not conservative. I've not followed him at all before last year.
