We have tried it both ways. We have just pulled it, and we have done this. It seems neither approach has any impact on the habits of the troll. (I feel like I am talking about a particularly uninteresting varmint on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom)

However, what we did have was some of our foes using the pulls to claim that the moderators were censoring material that Freepers would want. You know the types. Having this stuff a click or two away where people can see what it is if they are curious defuses their attempts.

And those people who enjoy just goofing on a thread have a place to do so without it getting in the way of more serious discussion on other threads.

It could be argued that individuals die and are subjected to death taxes, while lawyer-created corporations can live forever. It doesn't seem right that real persons should be at a disadvantage to artificial 'persons'.

You must admit, corporations have been an essential component of every totalitarian regime of the last 100 years.

With the possible exception of Cambodia under Pol Pot.

Usually this means they are anti-corporation, specifically the legal fiction that corporations are persons. To some extent I agree with this, since it makes it difficult to prosecute corporate officials for conspiracy, unless they are dumb enough to conspire with somebody not an employee.

But it's usually just an attempt to knock down the power and influence of corporations. Not a bad goal, in itself, except that large corporations have been the driving force behind most of our prosperity. Damaging their ability to function would have significant economic side-effects.

I said I agreed with most of his goals. :)
