It doesn't matter. This muddies the issue and puts racial insensitivity back for the Democrats to defent. Lott's comments, if taken at face value and extrapolated to the logical conclusion contain worse substance than that of Byrd's. But . . . racial politics has some definite taboos and the biggest is the N-word.

Of course, "defent" should be "defend".

All perception is colored by our biases.

I saw Bryd's comment as concilitory and talking about how we need to be today.

I saw Lott's comment as backward thinking and how things were better in the Dixiecrat past.

Actually McConnell is being intellectual dishonest comparing Lott and Byrds comments. Byrd was basically saying there are good whites and blacks and bad ones. Unlike Lott Byrd was not reminicing about good ole days.

Boy, your hatred for Lott has now tainted your ability to see the obvious.

When he said, "There are white niggers," Byrd was clearly implying that their are also "black niggers." So his remarks, in view of Lott's rather benign remarks, are far more grievous.

My take is that it was started by Hillary. She is the backbone of the demoncraps.

Ahhhh .. but Hillary doesn't start anything .. she just gives orders

That is how she manages to keep her hands clean and nothing sticks to her

"I'm not sure the public call by Nickles was the way to handle it."

I agree. McConnell, Santorum, Frist AND Nickles should have called for an immediate caucus of GOP senators and called into question Trent's ability to lead. Until more Senators come out publicly to call for Lott's head, Lott is going to keep on his "Debase the Republican Party and Sell-out the Conservative Agenda" tour...

Words mean something for sure. But so does context.

No, I took it that there is white trash and black trash. Trash is trash.

Praising a pro-lynching party, is much more grevious.

I disagree. To say 'white niggers' acknowledges 'niggers'...does it not?

Do you really think ANY Republican would have survived making the statement that Byrd made?

I disagree. If I was black, I think I'd take Byrd's remarks to mean: "You see Bobby, even some white folks can be as bad as those black ones are." In other words, there are "white" niggers, then there are just niggers.

I don't know any "code words". Do you know any "code words"?

I can't think of any right wing code words, but the Democrats have lots.
"Children" means teachers union votes.
"Blacks" mean guarenteed poverty votes, planned for years by the left. They're a sure thing.
"Health Care" means the first big step in their national socialist take over.
"Proscription drugs" means some day abortion and condoms will be free at the local schools and gas stations.
"Vote" means fill out as many absentee ballets as you can. Use any name you wish. No one really checks.
"Is" is still a secret. The right has yet to figure this one out. We're still working on decoding that one. It has something to do with more sex - we think.

I think you should change the tint on your glasses.

Byrd used the word as the least common denominator and was clear about that.

Bob Dole, who was at the Thurmond party said that Trent Lott had nothing to apologise for because the remark was benign and that nobody in the audience gave it a second thought. Yet you extrapolated from that remark the fact that Trent Lott went on national TV to begin a drive for the resegregation of America.

I'm not defending Lott any more but I am questioning the tint of your glasses.

Excuse me, but just how in the hell do you know that?

(excerpted from the Walter Williams article:)

During World War II, ex-Ku Klux Klansman, now U.S. senator, Robert Byrd vowed never to fight "with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

Just a couple of years ago, Byrd lectured us on the floor of the Senate that "there are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time." I wonder whether he was talking about whites who act like blacks.

Walter Williams, one of the smartest men in America today, who also happens to be black, doesn't take Byrd's comments the way you do.

No, I took it that there is white trash and black trash. Trash is trash.

Are you on Byrd's staff or a DNC operative?

To defend Byrd's remarks in comparison to Lott's is utter ridiculousness. Byrd actually SAID the word "nigger" while Lott referred to a time of segregation, a THOUGHT "crime" by your standards.

Someone ought to put a disruptor alert on you.

Praising a pro-lynching party, is much more grevious.

Let's look at what you're saying. For Lott to have meant this would mean he's a cold-hearted racist through and through, still living over 50 years in the past. Yet he has spent 30 years in public life and ascended to Majority Leader? By that logic David Duke should have easily become POTUS. He ran just one state over.

You might want to do a little more homework on the financial associations of Mr. McConnell.
