Byrd used the word in a manner that was not, on its face, derogatory to Blacks.

You're kidding, right. What Byrd said, is that some whites are so bad they can be called "n*gg*rs." Where does that leave whomever Senator Byrd feels are the "actual" n*gg*rs?

PS. Lott's comments are not, ON THEIR FACE, derogatory to blacks either. One has to make the assumption that he meant segregation.

Okay, what if I refer to 2 plus 2 and then later you claim that I referred to 4. My reply to you, using your logic, would be well how do you know I was talking about four? Nowhere did I say 4. You're devining my thoughts. Maybe I meant it to be 89. How can you possibly know that I meant four since I didn't say the word "four."

Here's why I say that the thought police objection is crap. No one on the right that I have heard blast Lott for what he said is referring to what they conclude that he thought or meant to say. They are complaining about the words that came out of his mouth. It doesn't matter what he meant or what he thought. It's what he SAID that matters.

Ironically, Lott himself could have nipped this in the bud if he would have handled the aftermath correctly. Sometimes people make mistakes. When they do if they honestly and humbly admit their mistake and sincerely apologize for it, most people will forgive and forget. Sure the left would have continued to try to use it against him, but they would have gotten far less traction out of it.

Re: post #353:

Terrific! Thanks for the reference. This needs to be discussed on the floor of the Senate. What else might we find about the "Conscience of the Senate" if somebody does some serious digging.

Actually McConnell is being intellectual dishonest comparing Lott and Byrds comments. Byrd was basically saying there are good whites and blacks and bad ones. Unlike Lott Byrd was not reminicing about good ole days.

Are you referring to "good ole days" when Byrd was a member of the KKK?

According to the story,McConnell is not calling for the censure of Lott, he is after Byrd. At least that is the way i understand it.

It was broadcast on FOX News Sunday and I think Tony Snow beeped the 'White N*gger' comment out..

Incorrect, I remember that program well, one of the few times my mouth actually fell open in disbelief.

This is very dangerous of McConnell to take on Byrd. WV borders KY. Byrd henchmen in WV have been known to cross the border to take vengeance on his "enemies." This could be another "Hatfields and McCoys" feud, but "Byrds" and "McConnells." I would bet on the "Byrds."

Why hasn't this been done before, given the previously presented good opportunities?

Then one of the weakest links would have already been taken out.

If I was black, I think I'd take Byrd's remarks to mean: "You see Bobby, even some white folks can be as bad as those black ones are." In other words, there are "white" niggers, then there are just niggers.

That's what I thought he meant; i.e all blacks are "niggers", and some whites are "niggers". Regardless, the term "nigger" is meant to be "a bad person". Being that Sheets was a Klansman, this is probably what he believes.

But the question remains; when Sheets finally sheds his "mortal coil", will he be buried in his Hood and Robes? Will there be a cross-burning?

Me, too. But I'm afraid they'd be fighting so much that they'd have to separate them very quickly. Maybe she and Janet Reno could share a cell. That might work! I read about Demi and Bill. He never quits, does he? (If this is true, of course. Who knows with him???) Merry Christmas!

I suspect "Sheets" believes white niggers are the folks that didn't join the Klan.
