China is the greatest threat our country has ever faced. Anyone want to disagree? Here are some things to consider: 1.)I believe they played a part (if they weren't behind)in 9/11 2.)they are planning things in Central America, (including Mexico) 3.)they have our politicians in their pockets, 4.)they are more powerful militarily then we want to admit...5.)they can cripple us by taking our factories 6.)and if you think muslim illegal immigrants were a problem, think of what millions of Chinese illegals will do in Central, and North America!!!

I see a Taiwan invasion, timed with a Chinese immigrant flood, (likely the AIDS infected ones) domestic sabotage/terrorist acts, and the violent beginnings of the reconqista movement. Imagine all those things taking place at once! China invades Taiwan, US forces inflict heavy losses--especially since our own military TOLD China how we would be fighting them if that ever happened!!! Could we handle reconquista gangs shooting up everyone and everything in LA, Atlanta, and border towns? Would we be able to fight back? Would liberals call us 'hypocrites' if we fight to defend Taiwan, while putting down another "legitimate independence movement"? Student protests, anyone? "1,2,3,4...We don't want your racist war!!!" will catch on big time...this time!

I personally know of Communist Chinese in my own backyard... so I'm sure they are ALL over the country...will they do anything? Could we do anything about it? Or will we hear more "I am an Amerikan" and "Chinese are a peaceful people" BS?

Bottom line--we are too weak to fight back successfully if this was to happen tomorrow. We have too many illegals unaccounted for, too much government incompetence, too many enemies within...If we can't get our borders secure, or get the American people to see what needs to be done...How are we going to beat China?

Like abortion, appeasement of the PRC is a GOP policy.

Yes, it is. When our EP-3 crew was being held in China, what did GWB do?

a) Revoke or threaten to revoke MFN trade status?
b) Threaten a military response?
c) Show the world the thug nature of China?
d) All of the above
e) Agonize over what kind of apology is needed for an unarmed aircraft flying in international airspace who landed in distress after being disabled by Chinese air assets?

America does not care about Chinese military ambitions. The only thing we care about is cheap imports.

Is our national strength going up or down. At first glance, it would appear we are getting stronger. How long will it last?

America is getting older, and the younger generations are made up of more immigrants than ever before. They lack the historical perspective of a nation - unlike those whom fought WW2.

Are we more prosporous? I would say that if I quit my job, borrowed a bunch of money, and went on a spending spree that my lifestyle would go up. As long as I could borrow enough money to pay my bills, I could keep this up until my borrowing power died.

America is a debt-ridden consumer nation. China is a production nation. If these trends continue, which one will achieve long lasting economic and military strength?

Gee, Orion ... like the guy's hands weren't tied.

Hostage Fears for Bush Uncle in China.

Who knew such a thing would happen the same week Uncle Prescott and his US-China Chamber of Commerce junket were sitting ducks on the mainland?

Yeah that solves the problem...the US should just go around threatening everybody with nukes. Good idea... /sarcasm off

He didn't say Bush should THREATEN them first... hehehe

Assuming you were not being sarcastic, why should an international incident involving two nuclear powers take a back seat to the purpose of protecting a member of the Royal Family?

Big nations have casualties. Superpowers do not apologize for their military being taken hostage during peacetime. Appeasing tyrants only emboldens them. China now knows that we need them. We are a slave to their slave labor.

A bold assumption ...

China is setting up an axis of evil. North Korea, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Somalia and Lybia are prime candidates. Russia, Panama and other nations need to be considered in this context. In fact, an alliance with the Moslem/Islamic nations of the world would create a significant problem for the US.

Even more troubling is the infrastructure going in in the south. The first step connects HK - GuangZhou - Zhong Shan with the interior, in particular Kunming. Superhighways, improved rail, etc. The second phase builds out the superhighways and new rail links and connects with a similar effort going in in ASEAN. The ASEAN businessmen are licking their chops about all the money they will make from increased truck and train freighted goods with the PRC. What they are apparently not thinking about are all the tanks (and the many transporter trailers for them) as well as TELs with DF-15s, DF-21s and other smaller missiles, all of which could be swarming over the entirety of ASEAN within a couple of days, once the roads are all hooked up. And I can assure you that none of the ASEAN countries have the types of force structures that could seriously oppose this sort of blitz by the PLA. And, I hasten to say, unlike the case in Germany during the Cold War, when we faced the Soviets there, there are no forward deployed US forces in any substantial numbers anywhere in ASEAN. ASEAN is wide open for the taking by the PLA. The objective? Control of the strategic Strait of Malacca and the Isthmus of Kra.

don't forget economically unviable roads through Tibet to the Indian border and naval bases and airfields in Myanmar.

Excellent point. Also, of note, are the increasing number of runways in Myanmar being lengthened to 12,000' minimum, for what? Yeah, lots of fully loaded 747s flying there! Then, comes a report that the PRC are to "purchase" TU-95s and Backfires from Russia. Ding, ding, ding! With that note, 12,000' runways in Myanmar begin making sense.
