Tanker explodes off China
Reports from Beijing say that one oil tanker exploded and another was heavily damaged in a fire in southern China. Details are sketchy but reports say that the blaze occurred near an oil depot in Qingliu, a village in the southern province of Guangdong, near Hong Kong.
Local reports say that more than 50 fire engines, five firefighting boats and two helicopters assisted in tackling the blaze.
Three people were reported injured.
The tanker which exploded was carrying more than 100 tons of oil.
It ignited more than 400 tons of diesel oil.
There is no indication how much sea water was polluted.

Tankers explode in southern China; three slightly injured
BEIJING (AP) - An oil tanker exploded and another was heavily damaged in a blaze in southern China, officials and state media said Sunday.
The explosion, near an oil depot in Qingliu, a village in the southern province of Guangdong near Hong Kong, was completely extinguished at 6 p.m. Saturday, 18 hours after the blast took place, according to a duty officer at the Guangzhou provincial government office. He gave only his surname, Wang.
The cause of the blast was still under investigation.
He said three people were injured but were released from the hospital Sunday. He couldn't say how much water in the area had been polluted. More than 50 fire trucks, five firefighting boats and two helicopters assisted in putting out the fire, state media said.
The tanker was carrying more than 100 tons of oil when it exploded, state newspapers said. They said more than 400 tons of diesel oil ignited, and two tankers were heavily damaged.
The tankers belonged to Panlong Petrochemical Co., where staffers refused Sunday to comment. Various municipal government authorities in the area didn't answer their telephones Sunday.- AP
I agree. This is probably all that we'll ever see about this.
It was about this same time that Muhammed and Malvo took up residency at the shelter.
Things to ponder: April 23, 2001.
John Williams changed his surname to Muhammed AND the first pair of hijackers entered the United States.
And of course the American media ruled out terrorism long before the flames were out, al la AA587 & TWA800, among other events. However, rest assured that if Beijing learns it was mu-slime terrorists, they won't worry about the feelings of Arabs when pay-back time comes. This is Hu Jintou's (sp?) first test as a new leader.
Yes. Oooo, I would not want to be on the receiving end of a PLA blitzkrieg, armed only with a Kalishnikov and a couple grenades, inside of China's own borders. They may not be any match for the U.S., India or even Taiwan, yet, but in their own country, they're the baddest mother----ers around. They, uh, won't be giving a damn about offending Islamic sensitivities, and I'd expect their Muslim population will drop to essentially zero, in a matter of hours. Which is why the jihadists tend to leave them the hell alone.
What little you know about the Chinese communists.
They go to great pains to ally themselves and be friendly with Iran, Iraq and even the Taliban before 911. And the Sudan especially.
They sell weapons, missiles, nuke know-how and equipment, fiber optic networks that can be used as air defense as well (this to Iraq and the Taliban to name two).
The lives or property of the Chinese people are not of major importance to the communist rulers. Threat to their rule is what matters and a fire on an oiler tanker isn't that(no matter who did it, if it were terrorism).
I thought it was always women and minorities that are hurt the most.
Tanker Explodes Off China, women, minorities, elderly and homeless hurt the most.
Jihadists leave them alone because they sell nuke technology and help Pakistan make their nuclear bomb. They side with Pakistan over India. They sell Iran and other middle eastern nations nuclear and missile technology. They sell Iraq and the Taliban's Afghanistan state of the art fiber optic networks, which Iraq uses for air defense (in other words they try to shoot our planes down with it). They sell chemicals needed to make chemical weapons to Iran and other middle east nations.
The communists cultivate friendships with Islamic nations, whom they have traditionally felt solidarity with (especially the PLO).
Jihadis leave them alone because they are allies much much more than adversaries.
I suppose. But it seems to me that if an act of war was waged on the ChiComs they would not rest until hell was paid for it. In addition, I'm assuming Beijing now knows what islam is really all about, and eventually either islam is destroyed or China is destroyed.
One thing I've been hearing from sources believed to be reliable is that China is now growing at an unprecented rate and with the WTO and 2008 Olympics in the bag, they're really not interested in upsetting the apple cart, so to speak. Relatedly, this is why Pyongyang will be slapped up a bit by the masters in Beijing until they start behaving themselves.
Again, my knowledge and understanding of Chinese Communism is limited, but for the above reasons I felt that China would retaliate in a big way if this is terrorism.
Nonsense. We will get quite a detailed report on how the falun gong caused this, just before the next roundup begins.
I believe you. If my comment sounded snide at al, I didn't mean for it too.
Your response is logical, but they don't have the same values as us.
And, like I said, they made the Islamic bomb possible by supplying Pakistan with equipment and know how. Why would the Jihadis be against them?
y'know, I think I'm just going to stand corrected on this one. You're right on every count. I still do think, however, that they'll have little reservation about crushing their own Islamicists under the PLA boot.
The ultimate China can do is to wipe out most Muslims and plant their people in Muslims' territory. Muslims would disappear either by eradication and assimilation by hugely outnumbering ethnic Chinese migrants. It is a bit slow process but its effect is total and permanent. That is actually happening in ShinZhang and Tibet.
Yup. It's a world war. Them against everyone else.
