SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept 5 (Reuters) - Former President Clinton warned on Thursday that a U.S. attack on Iraq could prompt Saddam Hussein to use chemical or biological weapons against U.S. interests because he would have nothing to lose. Speaking to a group of Democratic Party supporters at a Santa Ana, California fund-raiser for Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, Clinton said President Bush had to consider Saddam's reaction to an invasion before taking action.
"Saddam Hussein is not a good man by our definition," Clinton said. "There's no question ... he has significant stocks of chemical and biological agents."
"I think we have to assume that if he knows we're coming ... he'll do everything he can to use them," Clinton said. "That's the only risk ... it's an issue the president has to address."
Clinton added that Bush should finish stabilizing Afghanistan before turning to other causes because Osama bin Laden "is still our biggest security threat."
The former president said America's role in foreign policy should be "to turn the world into a global community."
The question, he said, is do "you want to run the world of the 21st century or do you want to lead the world? There's a big difference."

To: kattracks
Okay, at the end of the Gulf War he probably had limited stocks of CW/BW agents. Now he has them, and can hurt us if he wants.
I have two questions.
1)Whose fault is it, Slick? (and)
2)Is his ability to hurt us going to get better, or worse, in the next eight-odd years?

True and when did the sink master last see a classified report? Clinton always runs off at the mouth when trying to get out front of bad news. My best guess would be that the new intel on SH actually dates back to the 1990s and Clinton is engaging in damage control.

" Not according to Scott Ritter."
I gather from your tone that you know the story with Scott Ridder. It is so easy for Politicians to buy people. They have access to unlimited money. A cowpie dinner at either the Republican or Democratic Club will draw a room full of lobbyists carrying checks from their clients. Many of them will make a night of it, carrying checks to several fund raisers in the same evening. That is the legal stuff.
The politician who becomes a millionaire in office is not an exception. Some of them even sleep in their offices and leave their families at home to achieve wealth. Laughing out loud.

"Use caution" is such a copout. It isn't saying stop and it isn't saying go. It merely let's one jump on the bandwagon if an operation is successful and say "I told you so" if it isn't. Senators in particular like to use it to buy time until they get better polling numbers. Shameful, demonstrating a total lack of leadership. But then, Bill never was a leader. Time and again, he'd just find a parade and jump in front of it.

" "Saddam Hussein is not a good man by our definition," Clinton said. "
But who's to say that our definition is right and all the other's are wrong. We need to be sensitive to cultural differences in that part of the world, and not be so quick to impose our value system on those less fortunate and who didn't grow up with all the privileges we take for granted

E-Mail Reuters, and tell them what you think about their continuing to pimp for xxx42, undermining the President's efforts to clean up after that divisive walking BS dispenser.

To: IndependentThinkerFtLaud
Sir:
He is ready to send up to 250,000 U.S. military personnel to IRAQ, which according to General Franks might last up to 50-plus years. Where did the President get his military experience from?
Hard to say.
I'm still trying to figure out where FDR, Woodrow Wilson and Abe Lincoln got theirs.
But then none of them went to the same lengths that Clinton did to avoid military service, either.
Just remember, when George W. Bush was hiding from his military service over 52,000 Americans were losing their lives in Vietnam.
True.
But then he had plenty of company.
By the way, who is going to control the oil production in Iraq for those 50+ years?
Hopefully - us.

I have nothing ,but, respect for Air National Guard pilots-they put their lives at risk, every time they get in the cockpit-whether in war time or peace time. Many of them were the ones doing CAP. Your AWOL story is an urban myth, long since debunked.

President AWOL??? HAAAAAhhhh!!!! How soon we forget about former President DraftDodger!! Now we an see why Clinton never did a thing about Hussein, Bin Laden or anyone else...he was way too cautious. He exercised sooooo much caution, that he never got anything done.
To: piasa
#2 sounds too much like the Iraqi foreign minister. Can't stand to listen to either.
To: IndependentThinkerFtLaud
...Clinton is right on the money. That's right. King William never passed up an opportunity to pounce on money.
We must remember that under the Reagan administration, the U.S. train and financed Osama Bin Laden and the al-Qaeda.
Of course we were. He was helping fight the Ruskies. Proud murderers of tens of millions and enslavers of hundreds of millions.
I just dont trust President Big Oil...
Neither do I. President Bush, however, is another matter.
To: harpo11
Please do define the difference former president. That could be difficult. Remember, this is the guy who doesn't know the meaning of "is".
To: DuncanWaring
LOL!!! I was afraid of that.
Maybe he heard that phrase in an Alec Baldwin movie, or the tv show West Wing, he just watched and liked it so much he just had to use it whether it makes sense or not.
