Request for Katharine Harris Vanity (anyone want to start a live thread?)
The Daily Bugle | 9/3/02 | Section9

Posted on 09/03/2002 8:34:28 AM PDT by section9

I'm given to understand that the Leon County District Court is to hand down a ruling today on Hill's petition that Katherine Harris be thrown off the ballot.

Would any Sarasota or Tallahassee Freepers be so kind as to give us the birdseye lowdown on the decision, if any, today, and when it might come down? Harris' race is crucial to helping maintain control of the House and, in addition, would provide a measure of revenge against the Democrats who attempted to destroy her person.

Thank you in advance for any assistance in this regard.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Katherine Harris received so much derision for her appearance during the disputed election...I was pleased and surprised at her looks recently for a televised interview. She's toned down her makeup and has lighter streaks in her medium brown hair. Before, everything was exaggerated; now, she looks classier.

One thing stands out. Why did she spend hundreds of thousands of dollars (tax payer money) on several trips to the Bahamas? She said it was to promote Florida tourism. Now how many Bahamians do you know come to Florida? What they don't have enough sun, sand and surf over there.

What to say to this inanity?

I work at a home improvement center here in Fort Lauderdale.

I sell tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise to Bahamian citizens every year. My store does hundreds of thousands of dollars in business with Bahamian nationals every year. Including the tourists. They have family over here. They come here to visit. Is that so hard to understand?

If you are Bahamian, you want to do business in South Florida and Florida in general as much as humanly possible.

I know what you are implying: that Harris is personally corrupt. But in your statement lies the answer to your charge: why would Katharine Harris, multimillion dollar heiress to a the fortune of an old citrus tycoon, need to skim money from the state for her personal expenses?

She didn't, did she? And I think both of us know that.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

There is nothing in the law that allows a court to throw Harris off the ballot. Katherine Harris is now in compliance with the law. This suit has no merit.

are you kidding? this is the only place most bahamians come? i lived in the bahamas for a couple years on my family's sailboat, and when they say they are "going to the mainland man" they mean they are coming to florida. its a very different surf and sun here as it is there, are you saying bahamians wouldn't like to go anywhere but there? would you not get sick of it? in the summer it is hotter then heck down there, well beyond the florida that ive lived in for 15 years. The bahamas and florida have shared tourism advertising for years (ads for bahamas here and ads for florida there). So, though you are trying to make a valid point, its not valid. Maybe you should do a bit more research, no offense intended.

Let's get some perspective here folks. First, if Hill wins we still have the seat, helping to maintain the majority in the house. He may not be the perfect candidate, but he is one of us and we should stop this cannibalization. Second, I did some research and this suit does have merit whether we like it or not. Please reference Florida statute Section 99.012(6) which states that a Circuit Court of the State of Florida has the authority to order the removal from the ballot of the name of a candidate for public office who does not comply with Florida’s public official resignation requirements. Harris should have resigned as required and if she wins this suit as the former Secretary of State it is because of good luck and nothing else. Do one of you think that with this kind of a gun in their pocket the RATS weren't just waiting until after the primary when there would have been no Republican on the ballot. Get with it, if Hill wins it is not the end of the world.

"He may not be the perfect candidate, but he is one of us and we should stop this cannibalization." then he shouldn't be going after members of his own party! many more qualified candidates(like tramm who would have rocked!) pulled back for katherine, if katherine isn't our woman hill certainly isn't (cannibalizing his own party)... "Second, I did some research and this suit does have merit whether we like it or not. Yes, but state law cannot remove a candidate for federal office, not to mention the resignation law only applys to state office holders running for state office. And the resignation law states that she was "automatically and irrevocably" resigned on the day she qualified for congress, automatically does not mean she had to send a letter, she simply did that to be polite. Yes I agree the issue should be cleared before the primary so that there could at least be a republican on the ballot if the dems went after her after the primary, but there really is nothing she did wrong, so it doesn't matter.

How would the issue have been resolved early if Hill didn't bring suit? The RATS would have brought an action when it had the greatest advantage for them. Where in the statute does it say that the 99.012(6) only applies to state office holders?

The statue does apply, but the penalty for this case is clearly spelled out:

f)1. The failure of an officer who qualifies for federal public office to submit a resignation pursuant to this subsection constitutes an automatic irrevocable resignation, effective immediately, from the office he or she presently holds.

The penalty for possible removal from the ballot is questionalble as if it applies.

it doesn't say a darn thing about the office being persued just that she would automatically be resigned from the current office, which she already took care of

Sounds like she was automatically "resigned" when she qualified as a congressional candidate and could owe FL two weeks pay (if she collected it) and that's about it.

The liberal pro Gore media 'touched up' Katherine's pictures to make her look like Cruella....when she pointed out the fraud...they stopped....that's why she looks more natural now!

I think she even writes about it in her book......I know she told me the story when I met her because I remarked that I was wearing more make-up than she was.

There is a poll on today's main page of the online SHT website (remember, that's "Sarasota Herald-Tribune"!). It's in the middle column about halfway down the page.

The question asked is, "Should Katherine Harris be allowed to run for Congress?". So far it's about 50/50 between "Yes. She didn't break the law" and "No.".

Vote early. Vote often!

Click HERE to take the poll.

Online polls are garbage. Period.

TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION ARGUMENT? Sounds like it to me. The dems can only win if they cheat. Do Sarasotans have to sue the elections supervisor and file an appeal? Good luck.

If anyone in your area has time to start a FR membership drive by asking your friends to join FR so you can organize protests and phone calls, letter writing, that's all that I can think of at this time.

If each of you in Sarasota simply gets one or two people to join FR, then you could accomplish something without necessarily having to start a chapter.

There will be no elective office for Secretary of State once the fellow who stepped in temporarily is gone. The Department of State WILL HAVE NO ELECTIVE OFFICE. Katherine Harris using common sense and logic deduced that since the position she held was NO LONGER AN ELECTIVE OFFICE, the piece of paper was not applicable but she did sign it within weeks anyway. She did not do it with malicious intent or intent to deceive.

Look what Clinton did but it didn't rise to the level, blah, blah, blah. There's lots of case law out there KH's attorneys can use. THIS IS JUST MORE SCAPEGOATING OF KH.

If there was no elective office, then the paperwork she didn't sign by a date certain was moot. That can be argued convincingly when they view this in its entirety and there were no damages to persons running for that elective office because IT IS NOT GOING TO EXIST...

i just sent the following to sht:

The Herald Tribune disappointed me yet again this weekend. One would think if a newspaper were to swing a certain way it would at least follow the ideals held by the majority in the area. If you want to raise your subscription revenue you can stop calling houses while we are si tting down with our family to spend quality time and start reporting reality instead of false analysis. When those in the future want to know what the people of southwest Florida felt they would read an inaccurate account of history through the Herald Tribune.

I was so angered by your "recommendation" for the Republican primary for Congress, District 13 that I avoided your paper's website all weekend. I am not even going to get into how you glowingly reported on the wonderful liberal candidates like Ms. Schneider who has only recently registered as a voter in the area, McKenzie who appears to be a Jesse Jackson lackey, and Candice who just doesn't have the depth, but trashed the Republicans. Regardless, I started Monday off with checking to see what the letters to the editor consisted of this weekend. I am once again dismayed at the representation you have chosen for your paper. Many of my friends send me copies of letters they send you, but oddly enough these conservative viewpoints never make it to print.

History for this region will not properly be told if our local papers tell it. The last thing I would expect is for the newspaper to actually take on the conservative slant that most of the readers in this area have, but if they would choose to be a little less obvious in their liberal bias it would make it harder for me to prove my point. However, instead I open my browser to the letters and find anti-Christian arguments, and people disagreeing with our war on terrorism. Though these are the only arguments I found in the paper, this is not what the American people think in general.

On Tuesday Katherine Harris is going to win this primary, because she is the better candidate. In November Katherine will win the general election, as will Jeb. Sometime in the near future we will change the leadership in Iraq to ensure the security of Americans and the rest of the world. In 2004 George W Bush will be reelected, because he is one of the greatest presidents of our generation. Future historians will be misled as to how a culture rampant with liberalism managed to vote conservative so often. Unfortunately no one will publish the papers that record the lack of correlation between reality and the mainstream media.
