Sorry, I am not supportive of smoking in any way.We know, we know, no need to enlighten us.

Newsstands in NYC are already reporting lower cigarette sales with the current $7.50 a pack price.Of course they are, people are circumventing the taxes, if you believe anything else........ you are indeed naive.

I don't care about the law of supply and demand. I hate eating in New York City restaurants in the non-smoking section and getting the drift from other people's cigarettes. If some New Yorkers want to kill themselves, that's their choice. Personally, I'll take my chances with the subways, criminals and NYC taxis. I don't need to become asphyxiated because of other people's bad habits.
If you want to smoke, knock yourself out in your own home.

I just want to reiterate that this rally is not, as you suggested, in support of smoking. Of course it is in favor of smoking. Why else would you have a rally like this? I understand why people want to fight this on a civil rights point of view, but I find the argument pretty cut and dry that if smoking is to be banned in places of work, bars and restaurants are indeed places of work.

You have to wonder why some of these creeps folks are on a conservative forum... metesky, it's the saddest thing: you know I started a list of the anti-smokers in Free Republic a few months back.
There are 33 on the list to date. And we wonder how we got RINO's in office??!!

If you want to smoke, knock yourself out in your own home. Gabz can answer for herself, but I want to tell you something:
When you leave the confines of your home, the world is NOT according to stanz! Got that?
One more thing: this should be up to the individual business owner to make bars/restaurants non-smoking or sections to accommodate the smoker! It should NOT be left to the Government. Is that what you want? Government intervention in everything we do?
There are plenty of smoke free places where you can go and enjoy yourself. The people who choose to smoke ALSO want to keep the places that accommodate us. Isn't that simple?

The world is not according to Stanz. It is according to the wishes of government. And, who asked YOU? I responded to a post THAT SOMEBODY SENT ME. I gave my one- line reason for not wanting to join the rally. Someone responded to my one-line post and I responded back. Am I supposed to keep my mouth shut when everyone around me is running theirs?

If I own the establishmen and am a smoker, all my employees are smokers and most of my customers are smokers - I have to CATER only to you????
Sorry, pal - if you want a non-smoking bar or restaurant talk to the owner or better yet OPEN YOUR OWN business and leave the business decisions to the owners of other establishment.

"...I hate eating in New York City restaurants... As Orwell was always saying, corrupt language leads to corrupt thought.
1. New York City owns and has no restaurants or bars. Private citizens own their bars and restaurants. It is private property, owned by private people that in most, but not all cases are open to the public.
If you were clearheaded, or honest, you would of said you didn't like going into someones business if they are not going to operate it they way you like it to. As is your right. But they are free to ignore your wants, likes, or anything else about you. What you really want is a third party, in this case government, forcing the party with a civil disagreement with you, to be criminalized. Pathetic pantywaistism.

How do you presume to know what I want? This thread is about joining a rally which I said I was in disagreement with. That's all. Any references to third parties or Adolph Hitler are not mine. I said I was not joining the rally and I gave my reasons and that's the end of it. The next time someone in the Tri-state group asks me to join rally, I will answer it privately.

I understand why people want to fight this on a civil rights point of view, In your own words, this is a civil rights rally. I support the right of a property owner to do as he wishes.
If I "support[ed] smoking" the way I support the right to keep and bear arms, I'd be teaching kids how to smoke. Rest assured, I don't do that. Neither do any of the smokers I know.
Again, for the benefit of any people, smoking or otherwise, that happen to be reading this thread, this is not a rally in support of any kind of tobacco consumption, despite what some may be saying.

That is exactly the point - this is about property rights and rights of business owners to make certain business decisions.
Thank you.

It's sad that people would even compare someone like Hitler and the associated horrible death and mayhem he symbolizes with a cause as pathetic as fighting for the right to poison themselves and others.
