Jax quits IP race; other hopefuls flock from DFL and GOP

The Independence Party of Minnesota lost a gubernatorial candidate Thursday and picked up a passel of recruits from the DFL and Republican parties to carry the IP banner in legislative races, including former DFL Rep. Edwina Garcia of Richfield.

Christine Jax, the state commissioner of Children, Families and Learning, dropped out of the race for the IP endorsement to succeed the party's headliner, Gov. Jesse Ventura.
