Venus and Serena Williams today denied claims that they had fixed matches.
As Wimbledon got under way today, with fans queuing all night for tickets, the sisters denied that they played weakly against each other or pulled out of tournaments to avoid meeting. Venus, 22, told ITV's Tonight With Trevor McDonald: "I enjoy playing Serena as much as the other competitors."
Serena, 20, added: "It's said (we decide who wins) but it's not true." Asked if they ever pulled out to avoid playing each other, she said: "It never happened."

If they don't fix matches, they should. We can't have one feel too bad for losing too many times... </sarcasm>

Wimbledon ping!
To: meandog
Forget all that, I want to know if they've ever been tested for steroids.
To: evolved_rage
Isn't their father always playing the race card in one fashion or another?
To: Lee'sGhost
Forget all that, I want to know if they've ever been tested for steroids.No. That would be profiling.
To: meandog
The only women's tennis match I have watched in its entirety was between Chris Evert and Martina Navrotalova in July 1984. I was bedridden with hepatitis and could not get up to change the channel. It was hell.

I can't handle watching them. All of the uneccessary grunting drives me crazy.
GO JENNIFER!!!!!!
I'd like to see Jennifer play Serena in the semi finals and get revenage for her loss in the semi's at the French Open.
To: Lee'sGhost
Forget all that, I want to know if they've ever been tested for steroidsSerena could be a linebacker for the Packers.
To: meandog
These two look like the East German swimmers of the 70s....does tennis test for steroid use ?
To: 1Old Pro
Make that a match between Anna K. and that new girl Daniela Hutchanova (Yeoww!)

"Who cares. Give me a match between Anna K. and Hingis anyday."
Hey, let's stick with tennis here, OK.
To: 1Old Pro
By the way, you brought up Anna's name and it is therefore required that you post pictures.
To: Lee'sGhost
LOL! Anna could win a tournament eventually..
To: Paul Atreides
Generally speaking, isn't there is a 90% chance of the race card being played by people "of race".
To: meandog
Asked if they ever pulled out to avoid playing each other, she said: "It never happened." So when Serena pulled out so they wouldn't play each other in a semi-final and Venus could go to the championship match well-rested, that was a dream sequence?
To: Lee'sGhost
The game would start with love and end up with both of them raising a racquet....

She's cute but needs a couple more years on her to be compared "woman to woman." AK is still about a light year ahead in my universe.

Oh how typically "white" of you all. Griping over the fact that a sport which was once a pavilion to showcase the talents of "cute little white girls" to the delight of all the horned-up pervs drooling over them, is now being dominated by two strong, BEAUTIFUL, black women. I tell you it must be a travesty! Surely these two are Amazons on steroids and should be tested. What other possible explanation could there be for them to be dominating our beloved cuties. Just look at how brutish they are. It's obvious that they could and should be playing linebacker for the Packers. It's a crying shame. Someone ought to do something because it's just not fair that these two she-Hulks are so much stronger than the fair and beautiful and sexy hotties like Anna, Jennifer, and Martina. Truly there must be some conspiracy going on and I think one of you hit the nail on the head when you suggested that they look like members of the 70's German Women's Olympic Swim Team. It's quite obvious that Venus and Serena are not african American women, but are rather two well tanned German swimmers with fantastic physical alterations done to their features. Let's not forget the terrible injustice of these two being ranked #1 and #2 at our cute little white girls expense. Oh it is just sooooo unbearable to watch them play and hear all the grunting noises they make whenever they volley(Our pristine Anna, Martina, and Jennifer never make such brutish, non human sounds do they?) What horrible injustice will they have to endure next?...Venus and Serena ranked as the sexiest women in tennis?!?...OH! HEAVENS TO BETSY LET IT NOT BE SO!!! I will now end my sarcasm of your ridiculous statements and say this one thing; instead of resorting tho thinly veiled racist comments, why not try and give credit where credit is due. Venus and Serena earned what they've acheived and your derisive comments towards them makes me ashamed to call you fellow conservatives.

Paragraphs are your friend. Learn how to read too.
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
I think Serena is good looking, but her dad's a racist.
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
Out of meds I see. I asked a legitimate question because I saw a story on their father a few months ago. He was calling a white tennis player a racist. Perhaps, when the doctors have your paranoia under control, you can learn to discuss something intelligently instead of going off in a rage and looking for demons where none exist.
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
BTW, just gotta play that race card don't you.
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
Oh lighten up man!
I never said anything about them not being great tennis players. They are. I just can stand to "hear" them play. How is me not wanting to "hear" them play make me a racist?
As far as my comment, I mean come on Serena is a big girl.
I'm sure one of them will end up in the finals and probably win the tournement, so kudos if they do, I just don't want to listen to it.
Oh and BTW Monica Seles is just as bad with her grunting.

You'll have to ask CaptainSuperMarblehead. He's the resident expert on all that is black here.

DU?
To: shigure
LOL...I could have sworn that Captain is Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Oh no! Can a shakedown of FR be far away?
To: evolved_rage
DU = Devolvement Unchained.
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
I think they are attractive in an athletic sort of way, and it is obvious they are the best at what they do, so my hat is off to them.

Nah, my problem is that they win too often. I also don't root for the Yankees, the Braves, the Cowboys, the Lakers, the Redwings, Tiger Woods, Duke basketball, Nebraska football, every Florida college football team, Tennessee Lady Vol basketball, etc. (yes, I love a good underdog. Skin color doesn't qualify anyone for that title anymore, however. America is a very different place than it was... and I'd hate to be racist, condescending, or enabling by rooting for someone as an underdog just because of their skin color, you know.)
Also, Serena's convenient dropping of the match against her sister WAS rather suspect... but Venus did win with the extra rest from not playing a tough semi-final match. That, to me, is simply not right. (Notice: that wasn't "That, to me, is simply not 'white'.")
Please play the race card elsewhere. It is not worthy of FR.
To: evolved_rage
Let me tell you something son. I don't play that game. I'm just merely pointing out that the previous statements which I commented on earlier have that stench to it. As always, whenever it's called on the carpet the you just had to play the race card cries begin to ring. BTW, before you offer me advice on paragraphs and lerning to read, first learn to properly word and structure you sentencing.(I wasn't going to say anything at first, but since you wanted to nitpik I'm returning the favor---hint look at your 1st post)
To: Sir Gawain
true on both counts
To: meandog
who cares! better things to do than watch female(?)tennis.
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
I'm not talking about grammer, Thog, I'm talking about the capacity to understand. Your comments are retarded, Son!
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
OMG, how funny! With the exception of two replies concerning the "race card,"
you were the first member to bring up Venus' and Serena's skin color!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
OMG, now I've done it . . . somebody please stop me!

You of course realize that I never mentioned anything about their father's racist behavior in my comments. So I ask you why are you contending with me on that issue? Another thing why is it that you feel it necessary to question my intellect because you are offended by my comments or opinions? do I threaten you? have I threatened you? NO. That was just uncalled for and is another example(imho) of a racist attitude of superiority. I am not calling you a bigot/racist or whatever the flavor of the day name is. I am saying that you have been influenced to think as such. How do you know what ethnicity I am?(I won't say race because we are all the same race, just different shades)
To: shigure
Well, I recovered from having to watch the tennis as soon as the match was over. It was followed by something FAR more interesting--an infomercial or a test pattern or something. It took three weeks to get over the hepatitis, but at least the tennis match was over.

I enjoyed your hysteria...even if I will not allow you to tell me what my motives and thoughts are...
To: CAPTAINSUPERMARVELMAN
I am taking you to task because you included me in on your screed. I am questioning your intellect because you cannot string together a coherent thought. I am taking you to task because you insinuated that anyone who dared question the two players did so because of racist motives. Trust me, someone like you doesn't threaten me a bit. You are foaming at the mouth over something that is not there. I don't care what ethnicity you are; incoherent is incoherent. And, another thing, get off your moral high-horse; telling people how they have been "influenced" when you know absolutely nothing about them, wins you no friends, or admirers. You are the one who chose to be offended by our questions.

To: MotleyGirl70
MotleyGirl, MotleyGirl, MotleyGirl daaaahhhling. You're asking me to lighten up? that's quite humorous. You who said that Serena could play linebacker for my beloved Packers and the comments you made in regards to their, as you put it "grunting". I realize that you may not have meant it as it sounded, but I took issue with it as with everyone elses comments just to bring something to light. Do you realize how often blacks have been characterized as brutish, animalistic, huge, etc. That's why it's offensive. You mentioned Monica Seles "grunting" and I have observed that most all of these athletes do so as they volley. Are their grunts unneccessary as well or just the Williamses?
